Nodular Necrobiosis/nodular skinn disease/collagen lumps?

Hey there, have had experience of these and found that the best solution was a full pure sheepskin numnah. Cross fingers so far the lumps don't rub, and there have been fewer of them.

Is this the diagnosis you've had - or just what is suspected?

In cases I've seen where lumps like these have occurred its been a result of sweety skin, dirty numnahs and needing to wash the area properly. In the winter my vet has always advised (when clipping a horse out) to remove the saddle patch too, to ensure easy access and cleanliness of the area.

My vet diagnosed my mare with nodular skin disease - small hard lumps that come for no reason, then go away again weeks or months later, again for no reason.

I don't, and haven't for the last 5/6 years used a numnah on her, because it a) enourages the saddle to slip (XW fit with no wither) and b) rubs her coat. I haven't had an issue with the little lumps under the saddle, girth or bridle. I do have all leather tack, inc girth and keep it all clean.

The lumps my mare gets are under the skin - they don't come to a head/scab.

Have found that he does have them all over- worse in summer- so might be reaction to fly bites. They get worse on the saddle patch as this is where they sweat and if left rub. Have tried skin washes- some sites recommend that, others say let sweat dry and then brush off. So get a lot of conflicting advice. No numnah didn't work for us, but as said sheepskin has (cross fingers, touch wood!!!)

It's what is suspected. Horse developed them following some bites in the saddle area in Nov.

It def isn't a result of anything to do with the saddle, dirty numnahs etc. The horse was 'on holiday' when they came up and had been for a month previously. She is a TBxtrak and relatively thin skinned. She is unclipped (has never been clipped in the saddle area) and fine coated, she rarely sweats much even after work.

They are little hard lumps under the skin, no head, crust or anything like that.

I doubt they are from over rugging either, I tend to under rather than over rug. I don't layer. The most she has on has been a heavy with a neck when it was in the minuses. Usually she has a heavy no neck or a med no neck.

She came back into work in Jan and did lots of slow work, it's only recently that she has raised a sweat now she is out doing things again. The lumps don't appear to bother her, they are def not sore and so far haven't rubbed.

Vet is on the yard soon but I'm pretty sure what they are.
