I've just part ex-ed my saddle for a second hand Falcon Hawk Event Saddle. I thought I would try it out and just went for a little hack up the road.
I couldn't bear the noise coming from it! It creaked so loudly I couldn't really listen out for traffic and my youngster was a bit spooked by it.
Is this normal? I've brought it home and given it a good oiling and I'm hoping that will do the trick. If it continues to creak it's going to have to go back as the noise is too distracting!

Mine creaked for a short while and I rang the saddler who suspected the tree. It was wierd as it happened on about 3 occasions and then went away and has been fine since. I ended up not getting it checked as I have owned this from new and know its history ie never dropped etc.
I would get it checked again.

It sounds like it needs a good oiling!
Maybe it has been a bit neglected in the oiling department?
Our new(not new) Wow is creaky and the saddler who came to fit it said oiling it would help.

My "new" saddle creaked quite alarmingly when ifirst got it. It was second-hand, but fitted properly by a very good local saddler, so i didnt think it was the tree. Once I'd given it a very good clean and rubbed lots of leather balsam into it, it stopped creaking!

This might sound stupid, but make sure it's the saddle and not the stirrup leathers!

My old saddle started to squeak a few years ago, I tried oiling it more, oiling it less and then realised (once when I was riding without stirrups) that it was actually the stirrup leathers, not the saddle itself! Changing those solved the problem.

Thanks for your comments. I've given it a really good oiling and it stills seems creaky but I think it's improved. I won't be able to tell properly until I try it out tomorrow. I don't think it's the tree because it creaks absolutely all over. i.e if I press with my hand on the saddle flap it makes a noise.
I've never come across anything like it. A normally peaceful hack was ruined by the sound of my saddle!

My new to me but 2nd hand saddle creaked like the crazy when I got it, I gave it a good going over with leather balsam a few times and that seemed to do the job.
