Does it exist? Basically my stable base is hardcore so I have the drainage and want pee to be allowed to just soak through and away into the hardcore. I don't want the bedding to absorb it. I bought a pallet load of chunky wood chip (small wood chunks basically) but its soaking up too much so its not working. I was thinking about actual wood chip that people use for arenas or something along those lines? Something which lasts ages as in theory all I'd need to do is poo pick.

Ideas please as I need to replace this current stuff very soon!

Any wood product will, if dry, be absorbent, a really deep straw bed is probably the best bet for allowing drainage but I think that almost anything will get wet underneath after a while, I stabled once on chalk floors using straw, they drained well but the bottom layer did become wet, they work well in summer when the beds can be left up to dry.

I've been using hemp for a while and even though it's called 'equisorb' it's the worst bedding for soaking up wee and I've had to swap back to shavings to deep litter on because they were just stood in wee!

I've got a similar situation. The stable is very well drained and I've tried just about every bedding known to man. The best is old fashioned straw on top of rubber matting.

Easi-bed! But probably not the most cost effective..

easibed-I used it in a field shelter for a couple of years. It doesn't move about and doesn't get wafted about and make a mess like shavings/straw either.

Sorry to disagree but I use Easibed and it is the most absorbant bedding I've ever used - so not really what the OP is looking for I think.

Have you tried the big flake shavings? I haven't found this to be absorbent, it bulks up the bed but I have used Comfybed or small shavings underneath because otherwise the wee runs out from under it. Could be good for your set-up.
