Has anyone had experience of non equine companions?

I'm thinking about goats or sheep?

Or do Shetlands make good companions? I'm looking for something hardy and reasonably low cost.

Id say sheep, they generally get quite attached, a horse and a sheep, but they are forever getting ill or lame, they need regular feet trimming, shearing and doing for fly strike, and honestly, its catching the bug**rs !
Goats need the best fencing you will ever find, they will forever escape.

Id say to be honest its less hastle and more economic to have a shetland pony ! They live off next to nothing too.

Only good thing about the goats and sheep are that they eat stuff the horses wont!
