Hi

I am now in my third year of my degree and some of my lecturers have been talking about graduation, and I just really don't feel proud of my degree or what I've done.
I completed a foundation degree FdSc in Equine Managent, and no local uni's offered an animal related BSc top-up for me to progress to. Therefore I have gone on to study A course at my local uni called Professional Studies BA So by the end of it I will have a BA (Hons) Professional Studies (Equine Management) And I'm just feeling a bit down about it, I've always loved science and I feel a bit like i've let myself down and my parents for not doing a so called 'proper' degree such as biology, and sometimes I wish I had. I plan to go into teaching which is what I would like to do and my degree is accepted for the PGCE. I dont really know why i'm posting this but I just feel disappointed, and had always dreamed that graduation would be a really proud day for me and my partner and family seeing me graduate. What do people on here think to having a degree in what I have? Thanks in advance for any comments.

i think you should give it all you've got for your 3rd year and get the best grade you can, a degree is flipping hard work (it's not all boozing and parties, i've been there), and you will feel a huge sense of accomplishment when you are done. as long as it is the gateway to what you want to do next, that is brilliant.

Thank you for your reply, I know it gets me to where I want to go, and once I start my PGCE my degree to a certain extent won't matter. I guess I'm just looking for approval that my degree isn't worthless and I haven't worked for the last two years for nothing. x

if you have a degree, you have worked hard to get it. simple as!
do what you want to do and enjoy your life. i have a degree and a masters and i spend my life mucking out!
at the end of the day, its your choice and your life. i could probably earn triple doing a job i wouldnt enjoy.
but at least i get up in the morning and go to bed with a smile on my face!
if you want to do your pgce, do it, and remember, your degree will open doors but you make your life worth living!

Uni isnt just about what degree you come out with its about growing as a person aswell - I did a degree in film making and communications and its a rubbish degree 2.1 at trent

so my dad sent me back to do a masters degree in management and i hated it with every breath in my body - it was awful. however it did get me the job im doing now.

If you want to do something equine then you have chosen a sensible route - most of my friends did geography or media studies and now some work in call centres or bars.

As long as you have enjoyed your time at uni and everything else that comes with it thats the main thing - unless you do a degree that will take you straight into what you want to do eg vet / doctor

Dont worry yourself about it - i dont think you have let anyone down

Well done, you say you want to teach and you will be getting a degree that is accepted to do that so don't knock it!

You can always go back and study your sciences in more depth later if you wish, whether as another course or OU, and already ahving a degree will make it easier for you to get accepted on anything further you choose to do.

Don't knock your degree, you can do them in just about anything these days and what it proves is that you can study/take in/process information at a high level.

I've done various quals in horses (including a degree) and I now work for myself. But before that I needed to get a job to support me whilst my business set up. I went for various office jobs and the amount of people who made me feel stupid of studying horses was amazing. They all assumed all i did was pat ponies for 6 years! People still look at me as if I have three heads when I tell them what I do but I love doing it and have stuck at it regardless.

Be proud of urself, there are plenty of people who wouldn't have stuck it and like others have said as long as it gets you to where you want to be who cares?!

A degree is a degree - simple. Work as hard as you can (and stay sane!) and get a good grading.

As this degree will get you onto the teaching course, it does what you need it to

I no longer put my qualifications, other than the professional ones. The others got me to where I needed to be, so now they are academic ('scuse the pun

). Clients (empolyers) aren't interested in the specifics
