Ok here goes .....In May my lovely nextdoor neighbour gave us our annual herd of tadpoles out of her pond so my son could watch them turn into frogs...which they did and are now happily back in the pond ...BUT i have just been sat outside and looked into the tub where they spent their childhood and have noticed there is still a tadpole in there...he has beaten the odds and is still alive BUT still a tadpole no legs anything. Now this poor little chappy all on his own out there is about to go into the winter and i want to bring him inside so he just doesn't die. Why hasn't he turned into a froggy?? What can i do for him ? ?

P.S This is a genuine post lol
 
Okay thanks for that ...i am going to buy him a fish bowl bring him in and see what happens....oh my gonna have to think of a name lol
 
I read this shortly after it was posted, and have just searched to find it again.
I'm worried about the little chap, is it possible to see it (how do you tell the sex of a tadpole?) and have you chosen a name?
 
Lol No Clueless he/she is very shy, decided to call it lonely it is still outside at the moment as the weather is so nice, but it will come in soon for the winter.
 
Apparently the gene that makes the tadpole turn into a frog is missing in these little fella's. They will live quite happily as tadpoles as long as they have enough to eat and don't get predated. As you can imagine, in a wild state they don't tend to live too long once winter comes along.
 
Lol we are very soppy ! He is still outside at the moment its still ery mild just been out and checked him, he is getting abit bigger. I have a bowl ready for him but i am a little concerned with changing the water.
 
My sister has loads of taddies in her pond still, they were discovered when my bordercollie fell in and when we fished him out they were stuck in his fur !!, not helpfull to your little chaps survival though , good luck :)
 
Aw bless! Poor little guy! Would you like me to send Lonely Legless a companion, Robbie The Lost Homing Pigeon that I had to adopt or he would have died? Don't ask why Robbie - long story lol. Seriously, take care how you bring Lonely in for the winter as the water temperature may be too much for him. Years and years ago I brought 10 tadpoles in to develop in my tropical fish tank. I thought they'd grow huge and strong and terrify the local herons but they grew too fast and every one of them developed a twisted and bent spine and died. I've now got a big outdoor pond and every year it has tadpoles and toadpoles in it and they all survive and croak love songs all night from March onwards and hop across the lawn in their hundreds so I can't mow it and live in the cracks in the patio so I can't put Pathclear down. It's Revenge Of The Tadpoles I think x
