Does anyone know where i can get a fly rug that isn't made of mesh or the denier coating that turnout rugs are made of,

i suppose what im looking for is a fabric like the Rambo, i had a Derby House rug of similar material but sold it when my old horse didn't need it anymore and now ive looked on their website they don't seem to sell them anymore :(

Unless I have mis understood - As im not quite sure what you mean?!

You dont want mesh - but you dont want 'solid' - I'm sure its me not you!

I have the Premier equine sweet itch rug - its fab

I don't want mesh, as a insects can still bite through it and it causes major static, and i also don't want it to be made of the fabric that most winter turnout rugs are, as that causes sweaty uncomfortable horses

What im ideally looking for is the type of fabric a Rambo is made from but without the price tag :o or failing that i'll wait til my birthday and shell out on a Rambo for her.

I'll check out the premier equine rug though, thanks

I think the only one like it is the rambo. I've got one and its the best fly rug I've ever had and I've tried from cheap to expensive. Personally I think it's worth the money.

Maybe its a Rambo, or the Premier Equine then :( im not sure she is a sweet itch horse, just very itchy at the moment, we have tried de-lousing her & itch stop salve type cream so far, unfortunately her stable isn't very stable  the wall has moved and is in danger of coming down, so until i can stop the itch she's got to stay out! Ive got some coopers on order which i shall do this week and then failing that, its a sweet itch rug.

Would a Rambo be a good choice of rug if it wasn't for a sweet itch sufferer and purely a decent fly rug?

My boy isn't a sweet itch horse but I liked the protection :)

Brill :D Thank you think i shall do the same, i think it will protect her agains the sun as well as the flies. I just hope i can get one to fit her, she's only 3 im hoping if i go up a size then it will still fit her when she's fully grown, but at the moment still sit o.k on her neck

My girl isn't a SI sufferer - thank goodness - but the Premier Equine rugs stop everything.

I never really understood mesh fly rugs - Surely big nasty flies can just bite through them...

Seems round here some of these flies could bite my arm off in one go!!!

In nice weather could you maybe use a cotton sheet with a neck - the type used on show horses before a show? I have one that is the same cut as a fly rug, same fastenings etc

Or maybe something like a Snuggy Hood rug?

i was thinking of something like a cotton sheet with a neck, that would possibly do as a spare for when her SI rug is being washed and dried??

I'll have a nosey round, although ive been looking at the Wethabeeta Sweet Itch rugs as well, theres someone on our yard that has one i can try on her for size too, which is useful, and ive discovered a lovely lady at our yard does rug repairs, so if the neck on a SI rug is too big, im sure she could do something to make it fit for now :)

Shires sweetitch combo rug. Same tough feel as a turn out rug but not waterproof or 'sweaty' I've got two for my lot and prefer them to the Rambo. I've got a Rambo hoody too but going to sell it (what size do you need?!)
