Welcome to the forum!

That sounds a bit of a mean thing for your instructor to say.

If you are struggling to find a decent instructor or riding school, you could ask the question on the 'Regional Board' for your area. If you don't get much response from that, try 'The Tack Room' as there is much more traffic on there.

Good luck :)

yea but having trouble finding a instructor the first one i had was a little harsh on me i tried my best he said i was unteachable. I didn't learn that much

I hope you find a better and nicer instructor. :) I also had that issue once when the instructor called my mare 'dog food' I thankfully found someone else who was much better and we learnt a lot with them. I later found out that the first instructor often had their clients in tears, so unfortunately there are some really nasty ones out there but equally there are brilliant ones too. :)

I think my problem that I had was I had a anxiety and I was the only boy in the group. Another reason would be I was doing a canter then I got reared and got laughed at I was trying to hold back tears.

Most of us would be in tears if we were doing a canter and then got reared. If you are in the UK, find a riding school approved by the British Horse Society, and explain to your instructor that you are a bit scared. A good instructor will never laugh at you and will make sure you have a nice safe horse to ride. Only really experienced riders should be riding horses that rear or buck. Horses usually do this because they are frightened or in pain, not because they don't like the rider.

Maybe have some individual lessons. It takes away the pressure of being judged by the group and I found I made more progress one on one. :)

that sounds like a good tip but i live in the united states I'm from nc its kind of hard to find a instructor. My sister said do you know a friend that can teach you I said to her good luck with that because i know someone that ride but she hated me since middle school and been put down by a lot of my friends when i played soccer. The truth is I'm not good at anything I always screw up all the time.

Maybe try taking some pressure off of yourself. Horse riding is one of those things where you are always learning. It is also a partnership between the rider and the horse.

I am like you, as I also get things wrong and I was never a natural athlete. However I listened to my instructor and worked hard. I love the fact that if I mess up, my mare often sorts things out. I can remember one lesson where I was learning something new but my mare already knew the movements. The comments from the instructor often included 'she helped you out there' and I was so proud of my girl. She always does her best and I do feel like together we get there.

And he wont make it on the team.

That is really rude for someone to talk to you like that. Riding horses is a difficult thing to do. It takes years to learn to do it well, and it is very difficult to learn if you do not have a helpful instructor and a quiet horse to allow you to practise things safely = NO rearing or bucking! No one can learn properly when they are scared or being laughed at.

It takes lots of different skills to be a good rider, including being a sensitive person so you can have a good relationship with the horse. You sound like you have the sensitivity to make a good rider. Look for someone else who can teach you, best if it is a professional instructor but at least make sure it is a responsible and kind person with a quiet horse that is good for beginners. When you find the right instructor and horse, you will make progress. Don't let these people hurt you with their silly rudeness.

I am sure you can be a good rider. You are at a great age to start and young men make good riders. Perhaps there is a network or facebook group in nc where you can make contact with people who can teach you about riding and looking after horses? This forum is mostly people in the UK, so it is difficult for us to give you advice as here there are schools to learn riding. I have been riding for decades but I still find it hard and I am still learning. Most people in this country have lessons even if they are top competition riders. It is great that you are interested, and you must keep looking for the right person to teach you.

Is that NC as in North Carolina? Some places listed here -
https://www.newhorse.com/page/ridinglessons/b.511.g.27.html?page=1

You could try calling a few veterinarians or farriers in your area and ask them which riding school they would recommend for someone who is just starting out.
Your choice may depend on if you want to learn "Western" or "English" style, or you might find a place that teaches both.
Good luck !
