Tell me your horror stories please! what's the worst that can happen?

Found a couple of trucks I really lke but..... unfortunately they have non tilt cabs. Do I take the gamble???

Oh what to do!-s

I'll let you know when I've had a quote for replacement of the exhaust manifold on my DAF 45.:(

Have friends with non tilt who have had no probs - friend with tilt who have leaks and dodgy bits between cab and living that could take fingers off - just everywhere you look it says avoid non-tilt!

Well thankss for replies- really as nothing you have said totally puts me off!
Oh no off to trade in my beautiful new(ish) RR for an way older lorry - never had an old vehicle for years(scared of not having a warranty) so touch wood as you say!
Yikes!

just considder they are made with a tilt cab for maintenance and to facilitate repairs!!! I would avoid the later 2001 on lorrys as the have electroinic control and genraly need to go to a main dealer for repairs /diagnosis and you will find they are reluctant to quote for repairs on non tilt lorrys, almost all repairs/service will take your mecanic longer so costs rise for simple jobs its a short cut by the converter and shows he dosent give a stuff what hapens after the lorry is out of his workshop and sold so i would question what else has been bodged in the build...

Oh, freind of mine who services a lot of lorrys will do them but bills bigger for instance they changed a blown engine on a leyland 45 took two guys most of the working week as they had to take the front axle off and lower it out underneath cost was ££££s... a scania it took all day to change the radiator, its your call.... personaly as a mecanic id avoid non tilts there are plenty of nice well built lorrys about so no need to buy a potential money pit

The mechanic I use won't take on lorries without tilt cab, he says it's too much bother, takes too much time & that makes the bills ridiculously high for the smallest of jobs. With a tilt cab everything is more easily accessible, quicker to do & thus you get a cheaper bill. He's self employed & contracts himself to 'Keltruck' & that's the only time he'll touch a non tilt, but they rarely come into there.

If you have a choice of lorries.....go for the one with tilt. ;)

Interesting the comment re the electronics etc on newer lorries. We were told that too and opted for an older (2000) lorry which whilst perhaps not so flash is basically mechanics and not electronics so OH can do the maintenance himself (he is a mechanic hasten to add).

Had a Eurocargo for years with a non tilt cab, was a great lorry- absolutely no horror stories to report!- get a good mechanic to work on it and you'll be fine.

sorry I didnt mean not to buy a post 2001 just dont buy one with a non tilt cab!!! there are benifits with the newer electronic engines like more power with better economy and lower emissions you do however sometimes need to plug them
in to a computer to find a fault so it isnt quite so easy for DIY repairs...
