If you can join the Dodgy Dealers facebook group (there are a few), type their name in and there have been some awful reports recently.

To be fair, I had a good experience buying from him BUT I went in with eyes wide open. I had the horse 5 stage vetted.
He didn’t know any of the horse’s history but tried to bluff his way through it. He was fair in negotiations. I have ‘known’ him for a few years and don’t rate him as a rider. The horses tend to be of a certain type and standard, I was just lucky to find a special one

I know that there will be good and bad reviews of anyone especially if they are selling anything to people, but its always worth having an idea. You can still view if local but as Identityincrisis said, go in with your eyes wide open kind of thing.
I've been looking since April and have had some really awful viewings etc. even from "reputable" dealers (obviously lame horses etc.) Its a nightmare so I do feel your pain

Agree with comments from both Dyllymoo and Identityincrisis. Personally, I would never buy a horse without having it vetted, and I always let sellers know that up front. Where reputation is concerned I had an awful experience with a local dealer who gets brilliant online reviews which made me wonder how some of those reviews were generated. I have learned to go into horse buying being sceptical about everything I am told unless I can verify it myself. That said, I do try to avoid dealers with poor reputations, even though by the law of averages they no doubt get some good horses through their hands. I feel the scales are stacked against the buyer as it is, so I don’t want to increase the risk any further!

I bought one like that from well known Scottish dealer, she had drugged the horse up heavily to hide the injuries to his back. He was tried out and 5 stage vetted!!

Jack Thomas Watson isn’t far from them. I have heard much better things about him than I have of north east sports horses (think he’s called Gav Hetherton or something similar)

As above! I got zero positive feedback about gav hetherington when I asked elsewhere.

He sold it several weeks ago and it was returned - it's broken and would take a lot of veterinary treatment to possibly make it rideable

JTW has as many critics! Any horse sale can be classed as a mis sold if it doesn't work out, buyers can be as dishonest as sellers, stating they can ride when they have just come off riding school horses. I'm not saying gavin is as white as snow, see my post above, i just think buying and selling horses is a mine field

JTW will take clients out on a variety of horses he thinks are suitable, not just try one and make it fit for you. Also exchange if you aren’t happy for something else.
if a rider turned up saying they can ride after coming out of a RS I think it would be worked out? I can’t see where JTW has been criticised for selling absolutely broken/crocked horses which have buried folk.

i personally know people who have had very bad experiences with him but imI'not going to get into a this dealer is better than that dealer, as i said, when buying horses you need your wits about you whoever you buy from.

Gavin Hetherington has a terrible reputation and wouldn't buy a goldfish from him! Search the dodgy dealer fb groups for more details.
