In my desperation to find a place for my pony I was just being very optimistic and wondering if anyone has any land or a small yard to either rent or buy (cost dependent!) in North Herefordshire?! Leominster/Kington/west of Ludlow…I appreciate it’s very unlikely but you never know! One pony but will need to be ok with more than one person as a friend would put a couple of her small ponies on there too for company.

Am on all the local FB groups, have people locally helping me search including pony club and the riding club, farrier, vet, physio etc…

I’m also going to put notes through doors locally of any farms/yards…if anyone has any magic words of wisdom as to what to put on there please do share!

Thank you!

Sorry I can't help but I wish you all the luck in finding somewhere having read your previous posts. Where you are is my favourite area of the country.

I think asking farmers is a good idea, particularly if you are prepared to have your horse out with sheep or similar.

I know it's a bit of a stretch but is there likely to be anywhere near Church Stretton/Long Mynd? I know that area better and it might tide you over for a while even if it is a bit of a trek from Ludlow.

I've run a couple of searches on Herefordshire Horse Riders Facebook group for the areas you mention and there may be some options for you - it could be worth having a look to see if anything ticks your boxes. For example, there's a lady who advertised a 4.5 acre field for hay near Leominster on 19th May, stating in the comments that it had previously been grazed by horses. Could be worth a message to see if she fancied having horses back again. I've also attached a screenshot of a livery yard that was advertising last year. Good luck, I hope you can find something suitable.

Just to add - rather than leaving notes, it's often better to talk to people so they get a feel for you. It's harder being told "No" to your face but it could be the best way of finding a space on a farm. Also ask people in big, posh houses with empty fields attached. In my experience, they soon get fed up of paying gardeners to mow a field and will rent it out if you can keep it tidy.

Also, look for "For sale" signs on fields, and check land for sale online. They don't all sell quickly, especially if they aren't suited to development, and the land owner may be willing to rent to you until such time as a sale goes through.

Unfortunately Leominster/Kington/west of Ludlow is a really difficult area and small yards will go empty for years if you don't already know the person who owns it. Pembridge is quite horsey but you will need some local contacts to get an in, maybe try the Radnors hunt (though they might be cagey if you don't know them personally), Brilly/New Church outside Kington is also quite horsey, maybe approach some of the established yards there to see if they know of anything local to them - Shropshire Horse Hireling (Pembridge) springs to mind and Becky Miles place on New Church might also be able to help. The other places to try are the local Young Farmers groups.

I can send you a list of yards in that area if that's any help for you to ring round to see if their neighbours have any empty stables and paddocks?

Thank you but that’s too far really, 40Min drive from us x

Thank you, I’ve been in touch with all the yards in the area and either not suitable or full etc. yes I think door knocking might be the way forward!

I’m actually looking at a place that has space tomorrow, a friend of a friend found it, the lady hasn’t had horses on there for over a year but she’s happy to have them again and another couple of people are just about to move there who I actually know really well 🤪 small world and all that! It may not be the right set up for us and not sure what condition it is in but definitely worth a look! Thanks all x

There's a yard just outside leominster that advertises DIY livery and potatoes for sale too. It's near berrington hall.just off the a49 near the Stockton corner.

Would Presteigne be too far? There is no known public yards there but having lived in that area previously I could PM you the details of the places/farmers/landowners who have previously rented out fields for horses if that would be suitable for you.

That's Di Smith's place at Brimfield, she quite elderly so would be worth calling by in person in the daylight to speak to her.

There is loads of yards round Caynham, just up the road outside Ludlow but I don't know any of the contacts there, you would need to drive round and just stop at every places that's got stables or an arena visible.

We were at Caynham, it was too far twice a day sadly although I did love it there!
