Help!! Can anyone recommend a farrier who covers the Harrogate area of Yorkshire? My horses are currently barefoot so I need someone who isn't against keeping them this way!! I have a few names for barefoot trimmers but as I might eventually get to showjump these youngsters, I would like to keep my shoeing options open! Thanks! :)

Graham Harland is from your way. He is also a remedial farrier as well.
Was brill with my nervous horse. I had one shod and one barefoot and he isn't for or against either.

Could try Gary Harland (normally a bit easier to get hold of on the phone and get an appointment with than Graham in my experience) but not 100% sure he does actually cover that area (if you have transport you can always take horse to his forge though). Just as an add on comment there's absolutely no reason you shouldn't be able to showjump barefoot as long as you keep an eye on their management and how it's affecting their feet (I know plenty of barefoot eventers, hunters, endurance horses, dressage horses and showjumpers)

Only problem with the Harlands is them actually turning up when they say they will!
There is only Robin Fawcett or we use Tim Hall who is based in Knaresborough. He turns up when he says he will and, if for any reason he's going to be late /early he will let you know! Any decent farrier can keep your horse barefoot. They know about feet as that's what they spent the years of training doing! I am slightly suspicious of these new barefoot trimmers.

I don't know if he covers Harrogate, but my farrier is fantastic. My last horse was shod all round, my pony and my loan horse both only have fronts and my current horse is barefoot, and he's been wonderful with all four. I have recommended him to multiple people and they all sing his praises. He's also reliable, friendly, reasonably priced and always there if you need him. If you'd like his number just send me a message and I'll pass it on to you.

Thank you for all the replies! JJS I've messaged you, thanks!
I know that my horses will be able to do everything barefoot (in theory) but if by some miracle they're capable of jumping 1.30m + then I will need studs (for my peace of mind - am too old to go splat these days!) so I'd rather have a farrier for consistency than a trimmer! I know all the farriers you've all kindly suggested - the Harlands are lovely but I'd rather have one farrier as opposed to whoever turns up (!!), Garry is excellent but I'd have to take them there & my 2 yr old would object, there's a long story to Chris Pedley..., Rob Fawcett is a thoroughly great guy but I'm out of his area & Tim Hall I'd gladly use but he picks & chooses these days as he's not getting any younger so am not sure he'd be interested in youngsters (don't blame him!).
I sound a pain but all I want is someone who turns up, answers the phone, takes an interest in my horses' hooves & doesn't mind if I ask questions!! Can't be so hard, surely?!! :D

Ha ha, poor Tim - we've just got two new two year olds, only diddy 11h things, but ones a mule :D

Steve Hewitt is absolutely excellent, very experienced, calm and reliable, always turns up when he says he will and easy to communicate with. 2 of mine don't have shoes on yet, 1 only has shoes on the fronts; and the other 2 are shod all round and he provides a very good service, including at times complicated remedial farriery that one of then required.

Thank you, will look him up! :)

Haaa, he huffs a bit with my friend's 17hh 6 yr old as he fidgets!!! I don't know how they do diddy ponies - it's bad enough bending to pick my 12.2hh's feet out!!! :D
I think he always huffs and always has but he is very patient yet firm with young horses and some of our previous ones that started off quite bad when it came to being shod improved pretty quickly! My youngster can be a bit of a horror but is so much better these days - he's even just about stopped trying to nip Tim's belt /backside when he's bent over in front of him! And, as my sister's said he's been pretty good with our two new minis which is no mean feat with a rather opinionated mule!!

Lol, sounds like my lot would get on well with your lot!!! Next time my friend has her horse shod I'll ask her to enquire as to whether he would take on any more!! The sad thing is that I have no complaints about my farrier's work, it's just his communication skills & attitude that frustrates me! :0
