Hiya

Has anyone been? What is it like?

I am thinking about doing my first one day event there, will obviously do some xc schooling somewhere beforehand as we havent done alot together, but my horse has done lots without me.

Please would someone be able to tell me what to expect from a one day event? Obviously its an all day thing but I've never been to one or watched one.

Thank you sorry for lots of questions, getting nervous now just thinking about it

Sorry no advice as I've never done one either, but i really want to, so will be watching this thread with interest.

I am sure you know the basics - you do the dressage test first, then the SJ and finally the XC. Most of the events I've seen have tried to give people about 40 minutes or so between their times for each event.

Very best of luck !

I went to Northallerton 2 years ago. It was lovely. a large flat kind of permanent show jumping arena. The XC was also very flat. I did the Novice & thought it was fairly straight forward. When I was there the ground was plenty firm enough.

Good Luck

I went to the one earlier in the year and the one last year and am off again to this one - this time only have 1 horse to ride though as my sister is back to ride hers so will be a lot less stressful!

The XC is quite short now as they don't have use of a big field they used to have, nice sturdy fences though. I am doing the Novice (90cm) one - should do the 1m really but I''m a bit chicken and haven't seen their 1m course yet! Def give it a go, as the XC's shortish and flat it's a good starter one if you're not too confident or your horse is young.

The SJ's in an outside sand arena. NA is usually pretty good, well run - they know what they're doing so I would give it a go. Entries need to be in by Monday though!

i have found their ground to be a bit dodgy...dont get me wrong i love northallerton and regularly go sjing there but in the past i have found the xc to have hard solid ruts in the ground. i am pretty fussy though about the ground.

I did not find any problems with the ground when I went last time, it was fine, maybe it has been rolled since? It is not a timed XC so you can take it at your own pace too - the SJ is timed in case of tied scoring.
