Well things started going pear shaped on Friday night. I was grooming Senza for the show and noticed a massive graze on her fetlock that had already started to swell (she swells up like a balloon over the slightest nick). My heart sank but i hosed it for 10 mins and hoped for the best in the morning.

I got down in the morning and BOTH back legs were swollen, i felt like crying but wasn't going to give up that easy so hosed both legs for 10mins and then walked her for 20mins in the hope she would walk it off. Luckily one went down completly and the other about 3/4 so thought i would access it again once we got to the show.

Then my friends dad was half hour late in picking us up so i ended up getting to the show half way through my class and never got the chance to walk the course. I then started going into a massive panick coz i kept thinking i was going to forget the course. The course in itself i felt happy with and capable of jumping. There was a lot of 1st for us though. 1st time jumping a 1mtr course, 1st time indoors, 1st style but i still felt pretty confident.

Checked her leg and it had gone down completly so warmed her up, she was ok but not her best but we could deal with it.

Took her in the ring and she jumped no1 fine, no2 was the style which she cleared but jumped really funny LOL. No3 was just a normal upright but i could feel her looking at No4 which was a big spread. She had No3 down and wobbled into No4 jumped it but had the back pole down as well. Then she started to listen to me a bit better and get a decent rythmn and we flew the double came round to the next 2 jumps and flew them as well then i heard the bell go. I had got eliminated coz i had forgotten a jump

I only had one more jump to go as well.

I came out kicking myself for forgetting the course as i have never done that before and feeling like i really could of rode her better so the day was a bit of a disaster but at least i know the height wasn't the issue like i was worrying about.

I did however get to see Rambo and my old horsey Trike which was the best bit of the day as he looked so well and happy and Rambo's wife adores him so that left me with a big smile on my face.

So there you have it, a very big learning curve for my next show LOL

Oh and both back legs were fine yesterday, i think she was just trying to scare me.

It's so annoying forgetting it isnt it- I did it in the summer and could have shoit myself!!
Hopefully next time the lead up will be a bit less stressful and you'll be fine

Oh sorry to hear it didnt go to well...but as my friend always tells me, its all good practice

next time a...and like you said at least you know the height is nothing to worry about

I know i have never done that before and was proper kicking myself.

Think all the pressure of her legs and getting their late and also Rambo watching LOL etc took its toll so hopefully we will have a better result next time out.

Oh hunny! dont worry

we've all done it! even the best forget the course.

You had a lot to contend with, with the worry of her slightly puffy legs, your first indoor and first 1m class - plus your lift being late and not getting to walk the course.

At least you know you are both capable and now forming a good partnership.

Ah Kelly what a shame, don't worry we've all done it! I never did it in about 7 years of showjumping, then did it twice in one day!!!

I really could have taken a gun to my head that day!! Also done something even worse, jumped a winning round in the JO then forgot to go through the finish posts............

Once you do it the idea is you won't do it again! So there you go, you learnt something.

You also learnt that your little one is such a star!! 1M is obviously not a problem at all and it sounds like the courses were far from straight forward, what a good girl!

I think you should be sooo pleased with her, roll on your next outing I say!

WELL DONE

Yeah even though it went all wrong it has made me more determined to get out there again and do a better job next time round and hopefully next time i wont get myself into such a tizz.

At least i wont be worrying about the height next time either as i know she is more than capable of that now. Its just mummy who needs to sort herself out LOL

Oh Kelly....don't beat yourself up about taking the wrong course ! We've all done it, and on a positive note, she really wasn't struggling with the heights ! It was a very spooky arena...as evidenced by Trike's display on saturday...and I think you both did really well ! It never helps when you are in a flap from being late either so all in all I think you can count it as a success and get planning your next outing

Aww thank you

I have also forgotten to go through the finish in a JO before and yes i learnt from that mistake pretty quickly LOL so hopefully we will learn from this outing too

Thanks Rambo

I was still really pleased with her as she took it all in her stride and still jump the No.4 even though i knew it was worrying her.

Hopefully it will be better luck next time

Hi Kelly

It all sounded very stressful! Well done for having a go and your girl sounds fab and able to cope with the height ok. Next time I'm sure you'll be more prepared and wont forget the course!

Where are you at next?

I think my friend is trying to get us transport to Addington this weekend.

Her dad usually takes us but is working. I hope we can find someone though coz i cant wait to go out again.

Great! Addington is brill. Some friends of ours are competing at Addington too.. probably in the 1m or 1.05m open. (assuming there is one on the schedule!)

Good luck and let us know how you get on.
