My mare had a nose bleed tonight just after she had eaten her tea, she seemed ok when i got her in i groomed her and rugged her up and put her in for her tea, she was fine when i left but when i got home half an hour later i had a call to say her nose was bleeding, i went back it was a small trickle from both nostrils, there was a small blood clot on the stable floor, her temp is normal, and she seems fine in herself?? The only other thing is she has when she comes in is swollen from her jaw line up to her ears both sides, the vet has checked this and said not to worry she think its when there is not alot of grass she goes off searching bushes etc vet just said allergic reaction?? any one got any ideas do you think its related??

Re: nosebleed, if I were you I'd get my vet to check it out. Bleeding from one nostril, especially only a trickle, is usually not a problem as it indicates the bleeding is probably localised to the uppper respiratory tract. Bleeding from both nostrils *usually* indicates bleeding from the lungs, which can *potentially* be worse news. Had your horse been worked recently before the bleed? It can be common for horses to bleed from the lungs after strenuous exercise (Exercise-Induced Pulmonary Haemorrhage aka EIPH, it's very common in racehorses).
Definitely call your vet though.

Thank you for replying.
No she was in the field, eating then came and stood by the gate watching me muck out, i groomed her and then she had tea, so no hard work or any work at all. Will def call the vet.
