Hi Guys,

Debating about what to do with my boy, he is rubbing the side of his nose a lot where his noseband goes (flash sometimes with and without the flash), he doesn't do it when I take the noseband off completely but he still does it if I clean him and the noseband each time I ride. I also have 2x different bridles of different makes one for jumping/hacking and one for flatwork and he does it with both.

Thinking of trying a drop noseband but thought I would ask opinions on here before splashing out!

Really don't want him uncomfortable but I need a noseband for competing and hacking (happy riding without at home) :(

Is your noseband padded?

My horse used to do this in when I had him in a beautiful padded cavesson noseband. I wondered if the thickness of the padding meant that his fleshy cheeks were being squashed into his molars -even though I wasn't fastening the noseband tightly - especially as I use a hanging cheek bit.

I swapped to a plain flat hunter noseband which leaves a bit more room between the bit cheeks and his face and haven't had a problem since.

A drop would probably work too as it is fastened much lower than a cavesson.

Thank Pongwiffy, I have tried a full sized drop on him today, farrrrrrr to small so have ordered an X-Full to try. Hope it arrives in time for my Dressage to Music clinic next week :)
