Hi,
I have been watching a few of the videos where by someone who has a horse that is a nightmare to clip/shoe /inject etc have placed duct tape along the the nose bone of the horse and it has subdued the horse to great effect so that people can manage the horse in the activities mentioned above. It seems to act in a similar fashion to a twitch by releasing endorphins, without having the need to use a wooden or metal twitch.....

So.....

I got to thinking about the nasal strips used for horses for easier breathing when the go XC.....would this have the same effect in keeping the horse calm/switched off.....and if so....would it affect a horse's judgement when jumping XC.

I have no experience with the nasal strips or the duct tape.....was just wondering......

Thanks for looking,
Best wishes

I think it's an April Fool (the duct tape on the nose)...........

Being gullible I tried it today whilst clipping horses face:

1) horse turned himself inside out while I was trying to stick it on.
2) horse pulled back so hard (which he never does) he got loose
3) horse buggered off down the field
4) got said horse back and tried it again
5) horse ate the duct tape
6) I inserted my hand into his mouth and pulled it out (eventually)

I will never try the nasal strips after today!

There is also the Irishman s twitch, shown to me by a Paddy, where he put his hand right inside and squeezed the side of the face, it did work, not sure who was more surprised, me or horse.
To be honest, that old grey looked pretty suspicious to me, as though he had been perked up just 10 secs before they turned on camera.
