Well, its been 8 weeks since I fractured my arm and today was mine and Shrimps first event since then at Somerford Park and it was a success! (i.e. i didn't fall off and break my arm again!

)
Dressage was ok, nothing spectacular and got 38 which in comparision to the rest of the section was not too bad as there were quite a few scores over the 40 mark.
Then onto SJ, and after a bit of a mishap in the warmup

we went clear! and there wern't that many clears so I was very pleased.
Then the best bit!

The XC course was fanstatic, really well presented with enough questions to cause quite a few problems (or so it seemed across the tanoy) but for us, apart from a couple of scary moments

we went clear with 2.4 time penalites which i think came from having to haul him up infront of some of the combinations as we did not have the best brakes....

So overall im am very pleased and im glad that I didnt wait untill next season as my confidence may have completely gone by then. Anyway, i'll stop rambling on, thanks for reading!

Glad you had a confident, but safe first trip back out again, and well done for not leaving it until next year. The winter can seem long enough, without dwelling on a bad last outing.
Well done.

Thankyou everyone!
Don't know if we got placed as we left before the end but im going back there tomorrow to jump judge so I shall see then.
Conditions are very good, the ground is soft but not slippy and they always prepare it well. No doubt they'll have rolled it this evening before tomorrow.

!! Its always daunting to get back to competing after an injury so i think thats a bl**dy marvellous result! (Finishing on 40.4 is very good at the best of times even if you havent been injured ... so its better still given the circs! ) .... Glad to hear the course was as good as ever and hope to spot you tomorrow, take care, S

Brilliant Flic, well done. You are very brave. With that great score, you might well be in the ribbons. What a good way to start after the last event, put it all behind you and just think about today.

Well done you! We were in the same section as you but had a stupid run-out at the first part of the double of ducks (complete rider error), apart from that he was amazing xc. Had planned on finishing there but we're off to Broadway now as well to see if we can end the season on a better note! Gonna work super hard on the SJ over the winter and have re-registered with BD, so hopefully next season we'll be a little more consistent! Well done again!

Well Done to you too! Those ducks did catch quite a few people out, I was a bit worried about them expecially as we came up to them cantering sideways! (Shrimp wanted to take them on at full pelt but I preferably didnt want to...

) Good luck at Broadway, hope you do well. Im going to work superhard on the dressage part as his jumping is pretty consistent (last 3 events double clear) so its that phase which is letting us down.

Sarah - sorry I missed you today but we were only jump judging for the Novice class (only found out today) so was unable to look out for you on the xc. At least you missed the horrific thunderstorm this morning where the whole competiton was stopped for 45 mins!

Anyway, speak to you when you get back.

Yes it is a shame!! I looked out for someone who might be you when I was walking the course but couldnt spot any likely candidates ... mind you, people do often look pretty different when they are not under a riding hat - and I have only seen pics of you in action on Shrimp!

Was veeery glad to miss the thunderstorm!!! It was at its worst just as we were setting out from the yard and I really did wonder whether we were going to get a run or not.....

Glad you had such a good day on the Sat. We had a lovely run round the XC course, which I thought was up to Somerford's usual high standards with all the wood carvings, doubles of ducks etc. Wish my SJ had gone as well as the XC, but c'est la vie! (I'm sure life would be dull if I didnt always have tonnes of things to improve on !?!

... wouldnt it?!)

To be honest, Im already getting withdrawal symptoms since that was our last BE event of the year. It seems like a heck of a long time to wait until we can pack up and head off to the next one!
