Kept my 6yr old in last night for the first time in months, (just because i thought she'd like a good night's sleep in the stable instead of field shelter!), on the same feed, same hay, same everything... and this morning she was showing low-grade colic symptoms. called the vet, walked her out a few times, gave her arnica.
by the time the vet got here a couple of hours later (i'd said it was a very minor attack) the mare looked fine, wanted to eat again, had pooed twice, but vet wanted to rectal her just to be sure. thank goodness she did, because there's a soft impaction at the pelvic flexure... prob building up before yesterday, but keeping her in last night was obviously terrible timing.
oh, well, all tubed and should be fine now.
at least it let me show my OH "textbook colic signs" so he'll recognise it if one colics and i'm not about.
definite vote for calling the vet even for what looks like a very minor attack, though...
