... I don't think, well certainly no black pus nor strong smell.

P was still badly lame on Saturday so the farrier came out again and trimmed back her hoof further, hot tubbed since Friday and still poulticing, but yesterday a distinct improvement in her movement and she even trotted up to the gate, wearing clompy hoof boot!.

So, I am bemused, do abscesses flare up and then subside?!

Unless it wasn't an abscess. There was certainly a sore spot on her hoof when the farrier checked!

It was so nice to see her moving freely!

I have known them to take days to come out, I have poulticed for weeks in the past, you could stop poulticing and see what happens she will either go lame if its not all out or she will remain sound, but they can take weeks and weeks, she could have had a bruised sole my mare often gets this, hot tub with soda crystals it drawers the bruise out.

Mine has suspected abscess, turned out to be soft tissue damage, so all that polticing for nothing, he just needed padded foot, some bute and rest.

Had to have xrays to find that out though, he was also tender on inside sole, took about a month to get back to normal.

He also came in on 3 legs the other day but was fine by next day, I think sometimes they just twist\ tweak something in the field
