After last Saturday's excitement, Henry has been ok all week - a little unsure around dogs to start but he seemed fine.

Was walking him this morning and we met a man with a huge gaggle of gundogs (spangles and labs - drool). They were all friendly dogs, but when they came running over to Henry, he tucked his tail between his legs and ran back towards home

He was clearly scared and was just desparate to make himself as small and submissive as possible, one of the spaniels was inviting him to play but Henry just wasn't confident enough to join in

If I ever see thouse stupid women and their stupid dogs from last week again, there will be trouble

You'd think he'd have felt right at home with a pack of gundogs. I was expecting you to say he ran off with them and refused to be caught.

He's fine with one or two dogs at a time, but big groups throw him a bit at the moment it seems. So I agree that I need to find a big happy pack for him to play with! These dogs were all lovely, there were at least 6 of them though (I lost count!) and I think Henry felt a little overwhelmed

Find an enclosed area where you can meet a big, sensible and happy pack, he will be able to get away but only to a certain point, so he wont be able to avoid them completely either. Here the sensibility becomes important, if all the other dogs isn't allowed to try and make contact with him at once, he also gets a chance to simply see the others interact.

I believe the saying about getting up in the saddle as soon as possible, can sort of apply for dogs as well.
I knew a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel many years ago who out on a walk was spotted by 3 Borzoi who had been let loose to play by their owners. As it was described to me, they chased him down and more or less picked him up and threw him between one another...

Luckily he was a few years old when it happened and his owner was very active at a dog club that focused a lot on the importance in letting the dogs socialize with each other, so he was very used to socialize in large groups of dogs and he actually seemed to have gotten away from it without any mental "damage".

But the owner later said, that know she knew he did remember what had happened. They had been at a dog show and at one point they came quite close to some Borzoi and he had tucked his tail away and quickly switched side so that he walked with his owner between himself and the Borzoi.



Poor Henry, I hope you can help him get back to his old self soon again.

I think he'll be ok, he didn't run far and he plucked up the courage to come through them and come to me fairly quickly although he wasn't happy until we had gone our separate ways. He had no qualms about playing with a single dog we met later so I think he just needs some time. Totally agree - he needs to get back on the horse!
