Hi All

A horse down the shack i go and help out at is desperatley poorly. It started with a swollen sheath, high temp and pale gums. The vet was called (perhaps 24 later than they should have!) and he was given some anti biotics and something for the swelling. He is also very depressed in my opinion.

He has shown every single sign apart from colic of encysted redworm. This week in the middle of his vet treatment he was wormed for encysted redworms. Today 12 hours after the wormer he has dioarreah and his sheath is more swollen (a little more) and he is still very down and feeling sorry for himself. His body temp has reduced.
The vet is called for Monday.
Funds at the yard are limited, he is not insured.

Im not sure why i am posting this. I just ... well i dont know... Anyone got any idea? similar story or anything that isnt the doom and gloom i am currently 100% filled with inside? :(

Tricky one if he's not yours. Just keep him as warm and comfortable as you can, offer plenty of fluids and maybe something (electrolyte-wise) to replace what he's losing through loose droppings. He needs easy to eat fibre to tempt him and nourish him but which won't further compromise his delicate state. Poor lad.
