:( as many of you know my mare is box rest for recovering laminitis.

well she isnt drinking enough so her uring is dark in colour ( will get vet to check monday) she has abscess in hoof currently being poulticed though nothing coming out, being she has lami i cant add anything into water that could be bad for her .

her hay is wet though she is fiickle with it.

any ideas how to get her to drink more?:(

Are you feeding her anything that you could just make more liquid, very sloppy speedi beet would work and you could give several times a day.

she not aloud carrots because of the laminitis, she is on speedi beet and now just adding oil as she getting bunged up with the founderguard..
horse quencher hm dont know that i will look into that ty

i will have to ask my vet if i should use it as she has only just stabilized in her laminitis which was food induced
and its got barley molasses beet and corn

I found putting a whole apple in the water bucket encouraged my horse to drink so that he could get to the apple!

I note what you said about your horse being laminitic, hence no carrots, but I would have thought that a maximum of one apple a day might not cause an issue :/

Read that horses dont like to drink water as much if it is below 4 degrees- has it been chilly? if it has you could try adding some warm water to temp her? hope that was helpful :D

Sorry to hear about your mare, been there and bought the t-shirt :-(

The vets advised me to use Epsom salts with my mare, it did make her drink more and poo more!

Look at Global Herbs Black Salt, don't think anything it that would be detrimental, and is cheap. Has made my reluctant drinker drink much more, and her poo is much better because of it.

still not drinking hardly vet said not to use horse quencher as there is barley in there not good for her laminitis.

She isnt eating much either .

she has a Scandinavian salt block in her stable which she does lick.
Vet pulled blood on her last night .:(

I hate it when they are sick :(:(:(

Its horrible when their sick:( Although one or two carrots a day will do no harm to her laminitis to get her drinking at least. Even a little handful of grass at the bottom of a bucket maybe even quarter filled just to get her started, might be all she needs.

A vet I know is 100% against laminitics getting even one carrot per day, and apples are out, full stop. Why do you think they are so sweet??? I would go with the sloppy Speedibeet. My mare doesn't drink much for her size (2 gallons at the very best overnight) but she has soaked feed for her old teeth to manage including sugar beet so I know she is getting extra fluid. Beet holds water in the hind gut which is very beneficial.
