What bad timing! I finally got my lorry a couple of weeks ago, I have wanted one for ages now and have been excitedly planning things to go and do.
Last week I had vet out to do flu jab and to look at Axeys teeth, he had wolf teeth so they were taken out and I gave him a week off to recover. On friday I lunged him and he kept coughing and I noticed he had a snotty nose so I gave him the weekend off, and started soaking his hay etc.
Apparently he has been coughing a lot over the last week but no one thought to tell me

I got the vet out again today and he has a bad respiratory infection and is on Ventipulmin, Sputolosin (sp) and antibiotics. He can't be ridden for another week and if there's no improvement he will need to be scoped.
Poor boy, he's got to go out as much as possible, but has mud fever too and everywhere is really muddy. Although I think at the moment his breathing is a bit more important than mud fever so I will put him out anyway!

I might go somewhere one day, when I have a mended horsey

Don’t worry, yours and Axey time will come! Looking forward to the comp reports!

I’m highly envious of you having a box, the trailer is fine but I would rather have a box!

Oh poor horse

You have got me scared now, Domino is coughing loads. Good job the vet is coming back to assess his lameness - he can have a look at the cough as well... *sigh*

Feel better Axey!

We have not been anywhere either and neither have any of the other horses at my yard, not since the end of the summer season. Its always something with horses isnt it? I hope Axey's cough goes soon.

Does Axey have a coloured discharge? I was always told that a clear discharge was nothing to worry about but a yellow or green snotty discharge meant infection. Domi does not have a discharge, well, maybe a bit of clear nasal fluid, but nothing obvious. It sounds like a dry, dusty cough... despite being on a dust free environment. Im now wondering if I should call the vet out sooner to check his cough out.

Oh someone should have mentioned it, although I realise that these things can come on pretty quickly. Ventipulmin and Sputolosin given together with anti-B's are not given lightly....however they do work incredibly well.

Try not to worry too much - these drugs are pretty darned good at doing their job.

Really sorry to hear that axey isn't well, what a shame. If you want something to cheer you up I'm off to golden x on sat for a walk and trot dressage should be amuzing as I'm so not ready for it. Give a big hug to axey for me.xx
