Bit of background - kenny had/has a blocked tear duct and has a lavage system in so we could get antibiotics into his eye. A few weeks ago his tear duct flushed clear so vet said stop antibs and see what happens. It flared up again pretty much straight away.

Just had the vet out today to flush His tear duct again and although it wasn't blocked, there was a fair bit of puss coming out :( so she has swabbed it and is going to culture it to find out if we can use a more appropriate antib. If that fails they will effectively pack his tear duct with antibs in the hope that this will finish the infection (sorry can't remember the official name of the procedure) and if that fails its an operation to redirect his tear duct into his sinus :(. It all seems to be one step forward 2 steps back :( obviously I want this all to be sorted and get him better but on a very selfish note... I go to uni in September and took this year out to spend time with him and show him... And it looks like I won't be able to ride him at all and before I know it he'll have been sold and my year out is over :(

I'll ways want what's best for kenny. But I'm still feeling very sorry for myself :(

I've been debating this and at one point contemplated taking him with me. There are so many pros and cons for each it's so hard to work out what's best

What uni are you going to? How far from home? I was lucky when I went to uni as my pony was retired and a giant family pet, so wasn't going anywhere. We also kept her at home, so it was pretty cheap. My mum was a star and looked after her, until she died at the end of my 5th year. If you're not going that far and/or think you'll be home a lot, you could look for a week day sharer? Don't forget (unless you are doing certain degrees) you will get those ridiculously long holidays...basically get 6 months off out of the entire year!

I'm I'm York and uni is in Worcester. The yard he is at now is utterly perfect and full livery is available and I know for a fact that he would be looked after more than perfectly by them, it's just being able to afford that as well as my own accommodation! I've thought of a sharer but if they turned round mid way and said they can't have him anymore or don't want him I'm a long way away to sort it. I'm sure my mum and dad would help as best they could but with both being totally non-horsey it'll be hard. And then there is the fact that when I come out of uni i most likely wont be in a good position to support a horse for a fair few years :/

Get vet to flush tear duct up through the nose, the tear duct runs through a tube in the nose that could be blocked.
