well futher to my post yesturday sisters pony was scoped again today there where huge nodulles in the right glutteral pouch he spent nearly 2 hours removing what he could he managed to get out about 1/3 of what is in there out

so a year later she still has strangles

anyway the question is what do we do now ? feel so numb was hoping so much for a good result

vet said options are carry on as we are so anther scope in 3 months , leave her alone for a year and hope that it improves , surgary or put her to sleep

Has anyone any experances of surgary for strangles ?????? or any ideas or any spare hugs ????

Nodules or chondroids? Chondroids are chunks of dried pus which harden and lie in the GP. They are tricky to remove but can be reduced in situ and then flushed out. Sometimes, an indwelling catheter is used to do regular flushings of the pouch.

Some cases can be sorted - we had one - others are not so straightforward.

I hope yours is a positive outcome. Bloody strangles

vet said nudules but sounds like the Chondroids have got some photos i took today. they have been flushed and reduced more times than i have fingers to count the other problem is that bless her she is not an easy pashiont sorry spelling awful

Oh b****r, that is so crap. Really appalling, was hoping all would be well today and she could come back. Poor pony, and poor you and sis.

A livery at our yard had surgery for strangles. Was few years ago so my memory is a litte hazy but it was successful though pony was in a pretty unattractive state on his return. Food running down nostrils when he ate as I remember.

He perked up pretty quickly but still had nasal discharge at least one year after the surgery. Did not seem to bother himn in the slightest though and was still working. He moved about 1 year later so don't know how he is now but apparently still happy - he was an old pony too - at least 18 years.

Good luck whatever you decide - it must be a horrible position to be in.
