I went to see my 2 lovely retired horses today. All seemed well, both bright and both happy. Brought them out of the field, gave them a groom and time for the trot up.

Tom, my coloured was very lame. :(:(:(:(:(:( The 1st thing I thought when I saw him was that the spurs on his arthritic knee had got bigger - he looks like he's growing a handlebar moustache out of his knee. Knee sore to examine. Its prob worth mentioning there is already significant deterioration (never seen xrays like it) and 3 years ago he was given 12 months!

YO thinks he may have knocked it, but TBH to me it looks like the knee is deteriorating. Spoke to the vet - Danilon twice a day for 5 days then review. That will establish if short term knock or something more.

If it is just a knock, fine, all is well and we'll carry on.

But if its a deterioration, then I have to keep my promise. 3 years ago I promised him he would never be in pain, and that when his knee deteriorated further I would let him go. Especially going into a winter when he's out 24/7.

We'll have to see what the week brings, but my gut and my heart are telling me its not going to be good. And god does it hurt.

Think it might be time for some wine and chocolate :(

Here he is in his glory :D having some fun with his little mate Corky - sorry for mahoosive pics

:( I'm sorry to hear that. I hope it is just a little knock - hopefully he'll be right as rain in 5 days.

What a handsome chap in his glory days!!

Keeping my fingers crossed for you

Oh no, what a shame he looks a beautiful horse too. I do hope that he has just knocked it, but if not then well done for taking the kindest option for him, although it is the hardest thing for us. Fingers crossed for good news for him.

Wine and chocolate a necessity I think! x

I am sure the YO would have said had it been ongoing lameness so probably just a knock. It is just a case of wait and see i think. Fingers crossed for him,xx

Thanks everyone. I promise to let you know how we go on and I also promise I will not let him carry on in pain to ease mine.

Forgot wine and choc and went for hot bath, cup of tea and big ginger loves :o:o
