Hi,
I've just had a new farrier to my recently BF TB, (thanks Malteaser, he's a goodun) he said my lad is not growing a lot of hoof, but his feet are quite good, is there anything I can give or do to encourage hoof growth, another bonus is my anti bf OH is now quiet about how horses need shoes
Thanks in advance

I'm sure that someone will pop up to advise on diet, so I will leave that to the experts!

Movement is key to stimulating growth, the more work my TB does, the better his feet are.

Do bear in mind though that if his feet are pretty good, he only really needs to grow as much hoof as he is wearing away. You want stronger growth, not necessarily more growth!

Diet, movement, regular rasping if not much exercise will encourage hoof growth, however growing of feet slows down in winter, i believe it is because all the vital nutrients are used up in other parts of the boy due to the coldness etc, expect good growth come spring, so now is the time to get those vits etc in

My polish trakehners feet barely grow! I have him on baileys number 19 feed balancer as it has all his nutrients and other import bits and bobs in and that's seems to really help his feet ... As well as his coat and weight. But I also have on on vets vits hoof supplement. Now I can't guarantee it works but his feet seem to grow more and its only shout 18 quid for a 6 week supply!! So at least if it isn't working it's not breaking the bank x
