Hey all, I'm new here and this is my first post!
I started riding at about 5 yrs old, then had many different horses on loan until I was about 19, I'm now 29 and thinking of buying my own in the next few years.
I have ridden on and off over the years and just really want some advice on the best way to get back in to it properly. I don't want to just go out and buy a horse without first getting a 'refresher' so to speak.
I have been dragging my partner with me out riding but he isn't really in to it and I enjoy doing this with someone rather than on my own, and because I don't have a horse I don't know anyone in the 'circles' anymore and all my mates don't ride either now!

Any tips would be great thanks!
P.s the kind of horse I will want to buy is a heavy horse, so like Clydesdale or Shire, maybe Fresian.

Thanks folk! 😊

I came back to riding about 2 years ago after 4 years out of the saddle. I had a few lessons and then ended up exercising a pony for a friend of a friend who was pregnant. I was due to take her on full loan for a year but things fell through last minute for various reasons and at the same time I spotted H for sale. On paper he was perfect, in reality I'd later find out he was a lot greener than expected but a year on he's becoming the horse I'd always hoped he could be, although it's taken a whole heap of blood, sweat and tears to get here.

In your shoes I'd join local horsey Facebook pages and look to see if there's anything suitable to loan or share. That way you can start to get a taste of what it'll be like to own again - believe me, owning in your late twenties is a lot tougher than when you're a teenager with all the time in the world, at least that's what I found anyway!
