Actually the more I think about it the more annoyed I get... Am I being unreasonable?

Just to make it clear, there are 3 vets involved. 1, our original vet, 2, the one we got referred to to see the "specialist" to sort his tearduct and 3, the place we took him when he coliced. This is the only way I can explain without naming specific practices.

Vet 3 sorted our colic case and whilst he was there said they would sort his eye for me. This is after vet 2 inserted a lavage system through his upper eyelid that was in use for approx 4 weeks to get antibs to his tearduct. After 4 weeks they said stop treating and see what happens. It flared up again almost instantly but the lavage was never removed and never used again.. So It was stuck in doing nothing for weeks meaning no riding and no turning out.

Whilst he was colicing but before he was admitted to vet 3, vet 1 came to the yard to treat the colic and we asked for her to remove lavage as it was not in use and to be honest - really manky by this point! Well she couldn't shift it. Didn't know why just couldn't shift it.

Back to vets 3 finally getting round to removing it... To which they found it had never been put in correctly in the first place!! The way it had been inserted meant it could never have done the job we thought it was doing as the antibs were reaching his eyelid... And that was it. Nowhere near his tearduct! So it had been in 6 weeks... And doing naf all. And to top it off, the inside of his eyelid had grown over the end of the lavage, meaning vet 3 had to slit his eyelid open to remove it! No wonder vet 1 couldn't shift it!

I just feel so so sorry for him, he's been so so tolerant and for nothing, basically!! I know it's confusing and I'm sorry if I don't make sense. Just feel like I've let him down :( :( :(

Poor poor you - TBH I would advise the findings of vet 3 to vet 1 and tell them that you are not paying the vet bill for the eye - try and be calm but assertive - i know it is difficult.

how is the horse ? - tbh all i would care about is that he is on the mend and put the rest down to experiance - put your energy into getting him right -and just remember to trust your instincts in future and question the life out of the vets - i do nowadays.

It's a recent finding, vets rang me at tea time to let me know. Havnt seen him yet but they say he's ok. They've put a new lavage in this time in his lower eyelid. At least he can be worked and go out!
