hey,

just spotted a great deal for a 3 night trip to barcelona in nov (I realise it wont be warm!) but for the price it will be a welcome trip to go away and relax and do a bit of sightseeing etc.

just looking for hints/tips from others what to do there and a rough guestimate of much stuff costs - I dont want to go if its hugely expensive when you get there!

thanks folks!

Yep, and its lovely!
I ALWAYS take loads a money cos a hol is the one time I dont want to ahve to stress about money, but even so
I didn;t think it was too dear, but the
euro was abit higher on teh old exchange rate when I went. We paid about 5 euros for a 2 course meal, about 3 years ago though.
It shouldn't be that cold in nov- the beach is lovely! We also had a
great time looking round the various Gaudi structures and the cathedral.
The shopping is great, didn;t see much night life as took our daughter with us.
Enjoy it- and if you ahve space in your suitcase, think of me!!:)

Hi
Definitely if you go get one of the bus tour tickets. They go all around the various 'sights' - mainly the Gaudi architecture but also up on the hill and down towards the water. The buses go in two different directions (sort of clockwise and anti-clockwise round the route) and you can get off and on where and when you like at the various stops for one price. (or at least you could when we went which was about 4 ears ago). Also go into the food market in Las Ramblas and eat snacks at one of the stalls - the locals get their lunch here. And definitely buy shoes!!!!!

Hiya,

I'm a long-term lurker but thought I'd reply to this since I've lived in Barcelona for 3 years now. It's a beautiful city and there's loads to do at any time of year. Weather in autumn/winter varies a lot...last year it rained loads but my first winter here was soooo warm and sunny, so you never know, you might get lucky!

I'm trying to think if there's anything special going on here in November...there are lots of interesting public holidays and fiestas. One thing that is happening at some point that month is the Barcelona-Madrid football match - the whole city will be hanging on the result of that, and if Barça win, the party will be immense!

Anyway it's late here and I'm off to bed, but if you want more Barcelona info, just PM me any time! :)

Lauren

thanks for the replies guys!

my boyfriend will be in heaven if that match is on when we go! I think the hotel says its 5km outside the city centre so not to far away to get into town and do some exploring! Im just looking forward to three days of relaxing, eating scrummy food and not being here!!!

oh and jojo5 - yes i can never resist shoes!!!

I absolutely love Barcelone, but ditto the post above about pick pockets/bag snatchers etc.
Went last year and got out of taxi to pay driver. My friend had her purse one minute and the next it was gone. There were alot of people about, but no way did we see or could think how it could possibly have happened. We went to police station to report for insurance and there was a queue of 6 other people who had just had the same happen to them, so be VERY careful!

A duckling???? :D:D:D

To keep or eat??? :D:D:D

To keep as a pet!

With regards to the street crime - I got a shoulder bag from this place:

http://www.pacsafe.com/www/index.php

They do anything from wire mesh that you can lock around your rucksack (not as nutty as it sounds!) to really nice handbags and things which have wire cables sewn in, so your bag cant be slashed and the strap cant be sliced. Brilliant idea for such a busy place.

Hi

Been a couple of times and going back later this month - Bro-in-law has lived there for the last 4 years.
We went in November last year and was warmer than expected - about 23/24degrees but chilly in the evenings (we managed to go in a dry spell but it started raining literally as we boarded the plane home :D).
Definitely be careful around the Ramblas - I use a x-body strap on my handbag and just pull it round to the front of me so that I'm almost hugging it, but be careful with luggage as well - a couple of friends have lost bags at different times.
Areas to take a look round -BIL currently lives in Born which is lovely, quite funky with some lovely arty shops and some cool bars. We stayed in Gracia the first time which is a bit more "posh" - Passeig de Gracia is great for designer shops as well.
Have a look at the Time Out website before you go - really good for recommendations and whats on.

Have a fab time.

Ditto the thieving. Have been twice, and had something stolen each time (the second time it was a carrier bag which I had - I thought - very firmly between my crossed ankles as we sat drinking coffee in Las Ramblas. But my quite elderly cousin had a really nasty experience there. She was walking along with a friend, and the pillion rider on a scooter grabbed her bag as they went by. As she was wearing the bag diagonally, over one should and under the other arm, she was pulled over and dragged for some yards till the strap broke, and ended up with a broken wrist and minus all her essentials - passport, money etc. So do be careful. But on the good side, the Gaudi architecture is to die for - and I'm not a culture vulture!

My dad and brother went to Barcelona when we were on our cruise holiday, mum and I stayed at the port we docked in. They didn't like it, said it was stupidly busy (busier than Rome) and crime is very high- someone tried to pickpocket my dad. The latest way of pickpocketing- slit the bottom of the back pocket on a guy's trousers with a knife and the wallet just falls out...

Been once - hated it and came home early........... I thought it was dirty expensive and the people were rude.....

That said - everyone else I know who has been loves the place, just can't see the attraction myself.

I guess once a bumpkin, always a bumpkin!!!! Lol!!
