i have a parakeet and her name is izzy! we rescued her about a year ago when my auntie died from cancer, she had never been in contact with humans just left in a cupboard on top of a tumble dryer in a tiny cage, she also used to have a friend but sadly died!
so when she came to us she had a huage cage with lots of toys!! she never really came into contact with us, but we didnt mind because she is such a character!
she lovess to throw seeds at the dog and lola my dog loves to eat them! :L :D
she usuallyy wakes up in the morning squaking and throwing things around her cage!
she loves to take baths and usually splashes water everywhere!
she loves all fruits especially pomegranate, which she like to spit at the window :')
but sadly recently she started to get a bit sleepy. stop eating and started to bunch her feathers, she has started being sick and cant breathe properly :( she started to let us touch her and we were so happy but we seriously started to consider a under lying problem :(
we packed her in a little cardboard box with holes in made for birds to travel in, and drove quickly to the vets, the vet checked her out and told us straight, that she didnt have long to live at all! we could try anitibiotics but as she is unhandled we couldnt just insert it into her beak, so we had to put it in her water, problem is, she isnt drinking much either :( and so now is slowly going down hill! :( i absolutely love that bird, and i love giving her new toys to play with, and im really sad that she is soon going to die :( :(
but at least then she wont suffer :(
here is a picture of her when she was feeling okay :)

She is beautiful :)

If she is going downhill fast, maybe you need to make the very hard decision of ending her suffering sooner rather than later? It is horribly sad, but we owe it to the animals we care for to give them a dignified end. Big hugs x

yes :( we have considered that but.. we talked to the vet and he said give her a week or two but if she does get slightly better we are gonna have to keep trying as getting an injection into her to put her to sleep could make her very stressed and give her a heart attack :( so we are giving someitme :(

(Hi - first time poster but long time lurker here.)
So sorry to hear your bird is poorly. :(
Has your bird been seen by an avian vet or one with at least an avian interest?
I ask as very often your "normal" vet will have limited experience with birds and parrot like. A good avian vet well used to handling birds will have no problem giving the correct medication for her illness or an injection to do the kind thing.
Once a bird is showing that it is unwell time is of the essence as they are very adept at hiding their illnesses.
I can pm you a list of avian vets if you would like.

ahah yes very confusing! and yes problem is weez, money, the closest one to us the vet said is swindon. and then we would have to fork out a lot of money, far into the hundreds and on the way she could panic and struggle as she doesnt like change! :( and also she may have something called,, ummm.. phsycottis or somthing similar and if she does have that then she will have to go to a post mortem when she dies as it transfers to humans :( so its all a big struggle!! :(

unfortunately it does sound like psittacosis, a bird disease which pigeons catch- he looks a lovely bird and am so sorry that he is not well- there are antibiotics as you know, i just hope he pulls through.

Try any of these, all are avian specialists! Good luck, she is lovely

thankyou so much guys, but she passed away yesterday morning :( :(
she woke up, went down to the bottom of her cage fell over and then collapsed.
it was a very sad moment, especially for my step dad as it was what his sister gave us just before she passed away with cancer :(
thankyou very very very much for all your help! but she was just destined to go :(
