Usually I dont mind the snow.........its white, makes everything look magical etc. But I dont like that cos my boy goes in a field that is down a slope they cant go out (the mares can as they are stabled next to the stables - kinda).
So today was the first day he was in ALL day and TBH I don't think he has actually coped as well as it first appears. He looks all calm and contented, but oh no!

For a start he was FAR to happy to see me, all excited and cheery, and I took him to the school to stretch his legs he was fine and calm UNTIL I took his rug off as was going to just lunge him. Not happening! He turned into some mad canter machine, round and round and round and then straight to the other end of the school with muggins trying to stop him(I used to be able to when I weighed more! Now I just kinda get dragged

So just gave in and let him do what he wanted to do which was play

- If you've seen Over the Hedge its like the big dumb Rottie in that, "PLAY. PLAY PLAY". Running away and then letting me get close and he would kinda hoof me then dart off bucking and farting, and he just would not let me catch ehim even when it started to snow and was was like "c'mon times up". He was looking like "BUT muuuuuuuuuuum I wan to PLAY!" And when I went to the other side of the school gate (pretending ot leave him) he bolted over all like "dont leave me" and let me take him in. Then whenever Iw ent out of his sight when I was mucking out he would bang the door till I came into view and he was pulling rugs off walls.
Then when I was grooming him he kept grooming me! Its sweet, but I REALLY dont like when he licks my back :-X. I kept trying to brush his mane and he was constantly turning round to nuzzle me so I had to let him nuzzle/lick/mouth my left hand whilst I groomed with the right.

He was soo happy to get his tea, but he was not looking the cheeriest when I left

They have those stables where they should be able to see each other, but the others have lockers up so even with horses heads over the door u cant se them, and due to him likeing to chew his rug straps, his rug hangs on a bar in fronf of his stable bars.
I feel upset for him, and there is MORE snow tonight so they probably wont be out tomorrow either

.

I really want to ask the farmer if there is any way the mares can all go together so the geldings can go out for at least a day ro two if the weather is going to stay like this - and if it gets icy again (also going to get LOTS of salt for the route to the field)
He is not used to being in all the time, the longest was from 8pm - 12pm and even then he tried to bolt when I opened the stable door.

Sorry for the long post, just feel so bad for my boy as after my broken ankle I know how boring/lonely/frustrating confinement cant be. And I know there are lots of you out there who have to and prefer your horses being in all the time, but then they are, I presume, used to it. Beau is a social horse though and needs other horses/people or he become a bit, withdrawn

HI

Awww , it isnt nice when they cant get out ... Although it may not be possible for him to get out, have you tried adding a few toys to his stable ? perhaps a jolly ball or a feedball , should break the day up for him at least until the snow has thawed out .
