Found a seemingly suitable dog on Dogs Trust website, rang up to check dog still there, yes. Shot into car and high tailed it to sanctuary, 1 hours drive. Got pipped at the post by about 15 minutes ! You have to be blooming quick, some dogs lingering there for months (mainly border collies and staffs), and others snapped up immediately. Have to say its a beautiful place, I usually come away from places like that feeling really sad, but I didn't as dogs were so well looked after and had lovely kennels and play areas.

Sorry you missed it Snuffles. There must be the right dog waiting for you somewhere.
Interesting you thought the kennels were good.

Gave up with the Dogs Trust I am afraid as they do not let you express an interest online. The Blue Cross is much better as you can put in your interest before hand and they suggest dogs that might be suitable.

I know they need to home them, but smaller charities I know access all interested parties to see which would be the best home for that specific dog- not just first to the post who has filled in a form and maybe home check

Sorry to hear you missed it! Fingers crossed you find another suitable one soon :)

I remember when I was a child me and my mum went to the RSPCA for a second dog, we already had a male border collie so we wanted a bitch (or my parents did i was only 8!). They only had two females available and the woman in front asked to see the first one so we had to go see the second one. She was called Amber and a complete mutt!! She turned out to be the most perfect dog and was great for me as she adored kids and would always come and sit with me. It still makes me feel tearful thinking about how brilliant she was!

So you might have missed out on this one but the right one will be round the corner :)

Working GSD was a spaniel cross bitch, 6 years old, good with otherdogs. Sounded just right ! PippiX, I don't suppose it would be economically viable and would be too time consuming contacting everyone who might have expressed an interest, a lot of small charities don't do that as they say they end up with hundreds of forms and people have either got something else or decided not to get another dog and don't bother to take themselves off the list. There was a constant stream of people coming in to enquire so I think they mostly rehome fairly quickly.

Try contacting Spaniel Aid http://spanielaid.co.uk/ they rehome many spanners and their crosses. They don't have kennels and dogs arfe fostered all over the country . A transport chain is often set up to help move dogs to new homes so you'd only have to make the initial journey to meet the dog.
