Ok, bit of a random one, cat caught a blackbird on saturday in front of me, so I stepped in and grabbed it (wish I hadn't in a way!)...anyway, it had a nice hole in its chest and its skin was literally hanging off all the way down its breast...so I made the decision to put it out of its misery.

My god I think that was the most traumatic thing I have ever done...its now monday and I still feel terrible and like a bird murderer. Does anyone else feel terrible for doing this or am I being a complete wuss?!

I put a rat out of its misery on our yard once, it was crawling across the floor and think it had been stood on by one of the horses. I had to smack it with a shovel (and spent some time worrying if i would hit it hard enough kill it first time) which wasnt nice but it did end its misery.
I think you did the right thing and helped the poor thing, you're not murderer

I know I did the right thing by it, but I keep hoping I did it right, and that I didn't make it suffer any more...I broke its neck and I can still 'feel it' if that makes sense!

err...no thanks!!!

Re the chook, cant you ask someone else to do it? My mum has a friend who dispatches of any chickens and ducks for her....

No one I know will do it ... I will take her to the vets to get her the jab ... I nearly brought her in the house tonight, I feel so bad for her ... bloody horse with clumsy feet - suppose it's not his fault!
