Hey guys, thought i'd pop this in here as it is likely to get more views.

Brought Galaxy in tonight and was grooming her outside her stable. Another brought her horse in so i asked Galaxy to move over and she was very reluctant and got to a point where she wouldn't move over any more. When she did move it was tiny little ouchy steps. Thinking about it she was the same when i asked her to move Monday evening for another horse to come by. I put her on the walker last night and she seemed ok, but thinking about it now she was a little sluggish.

Anyway i brought her out on to the car park and asked her to move her hinds and cross through, well again she was reluctant and took tiny shuffle steps and her bum was a little tucked under, she was the same in both directions. One of the liveries said when i walked her out of the barn she looked like she was tip toeing. I asked her to back up and again very hesitant, tiny shuffle steps and at one point she leaned her body back rather than move her feet until she had to choice but to shuffle a little. I got a livery to ask her to back up so i could watch her and again she had her back end tucked under a little.

I don't know whats up with the poor girl? :(

This is the mare that i only have to verbally ask to move over or click my fingers by her side and she will move over and cross through with her hinds, and steps back confidently when asked to.

I'm going to put her hoof boots on her hinds tomorrow evening to see if she steps along, over and back more confidently, but i really don't think it is her feet as there was nothing ouchy under foot etc and her back end was a little tucked under.

Any ideas guys? She seems fine in herself apart from that, but i'm stumped, all i can think is she is tight somewhere or cramp type pains after a first season? My poor little flower :(

My friends horse is terrible at the moment, she isnt doing what your girl is doing but at times stands hunched up. She is raging in season and often colics when she is like this. Maybe it is her season? Just a thought could a gelding have got to her and hurt her back??

if she is reluctant to back up and cross over when asking her to turn a tight circle I would suspect back or pelvic pain.

I think call out the vet, pronto. Has she got any heat in her hooves, back or legs? Is she tender to touch anywhere? It sounds like either something's wrong in her hooves, but most likely it sounds like her back or pelvis. Personally, I'd call the vet to be sure. Hope she's feeling better soon! xx

immediately i thought 'laminitis',when you described her movements. Does she have access to much grass? Has she ever had it before? Sounds like a vet job whatever though, serious discomfort somewhere. x

Hi guys, thanks for the replies

I forgot to mention earlier before running out that i checked for pulses, felt one very very faint one but that could of been me applying to much presure when feeling for it on one hind, apart from that nothing!

Sounds like low grade laminitis to me. That doesn't always raise the digital pulse. Call the vet before the weekend and the higher call out fee!

if the shuffly steps are only when asked to cross over or back up then there is an issue somewhere in her pelvis or her back.If she still shuffles while walking forwards then I would possibly suspect a low grade laminitis.

Firstly, I thought it was typical Lami signs, but the fact that she seems willing to move forwards, but reluctant to move side ways would indicate a back/pelvic pain. If she is in season, could be like a period pain... some of us suffer back pain when its time of the month. Is it her first season?
I would defo call the vet, just to put your mind at rest, and to get some pain killers whilst the vet looks into it more?

Hope she feels well soon!! xx
