Hi all!

Im currently on a walk and trot roadwork programme for my mare who is (hopefully!) going to be given the all clear for her PSD soon. She an active big ISH who really likes to work, be mentally stimulated and get on with it. Fingers crossed we only have 4/5 more weeks before we can do more.

Trouble is we have been doing this work for around 8 weeks now after her box rest and I can tell she is getting bored/fitter/stronger/wanting to do more - this has resulted in not wanting to stand still eg waiting for a car. Annoying at best, dangerous at worst! So much so that when you insist she starts skitting about, jogging and even threatening to go up. Theres no malice in it and I know shes just keen to get on but with cars and things about it is a problem. Its definately not a pain thing - we usually cant stand still in xc warm ups/start boxes either!

any advice?

shes not meant to be doing school work as such yet but I am going to have a session in the school just doing walk to halt repeatedly going large to try and reiterate the message but it probably wont do much good as she is good as gold in there.

Small steps daily, stand for 30 secs pat then walk on, stand for 1 min pat then walk on, dont hold her and make her stand in a dangerous situation just make a circle, pat her, stand for 1min and circle, she should get the message, always reason with a mare, tell a gelding and ask a stallion.
