Brother in Law who I always believed to be a bit of a wimp and an anti has recently expressed a deep interest in going pheasant shooting.
He is a keen cook and would like to do his own 'Kill it, Cook it, Eat it'.
I have been approached to help with this.....because 'you have a horse'
- sister totally non horsey thinks all we do is charge around the countryside shouting Tally Ho!!!
any ideas oh brainy ones???

They offer training courses and the chance to find beating opportunties - rack up enough days and there may be a beaters' day as a reward on the shoot.

Alternatively there are plenty of places where you can buy a day's shooting, but it don't come cheap, particularly with rising costs and you could be looking at £25 upwards per bird.

Has he done any shooting? If not I would recommend he has a day at a clay pigeon shoot and has a lesson. The pheasant shooting season finishes at the end of Jan so he would be best to try for a couple of days beating to get the idea of what happens on a shoot then try getting a few lessons throughout the year ready for the next season at the beginning of Oct.

Yes, he needs some lessons, join BASC, apply to the Police for a gun licence, buy a gun and have a locked cabinet to keep it in.
To go shooting to kill anything you should be a reasonable shot with at least a decent chance of a clean kill, and you should know how to "despatch" something that isn't dead when it is picked up.

If he goes to a shooting school and expresses an interest I expect they could put him in touch with a local shoot to go as a beater.
