to cut a very long story short i am not sure what to do with my horse, have been trying to sell her for about 6 six weeks, shes 16hh well bred mare,9yrs, bsja money, schooled xc hunted, good to hack catch etc, v loving but cant find anyone who wants her!!! although she came to me in a bit i ride her in a hackamore as shes happier, have been honest with everyone who rings up about this and whilst she will go back in a bit with schooling (just mouths a bit when she has one in) shes not going to do it over night.Keep getting people out who ride/jump/hack her and love her then bring an instructor and make me put a bit in her mouth. I am getting seriously peed off as i am saying from the start she needs work and am not asking huge amounts for her becaseu of this. Horsey is just getting upset at different people riding her with bits of all varities. Not sure what to do - whether to try and reschool in a bit or end up selling on a site like project horses? Shes not got a nasty bone in her body she does not rear buck or be naughty at all, she just liked to be ridden bitless, although with an experianced rider will go into an outline but will take some schooling to keep a consistant contact. Hav a video of her when i first got her in a bit and she goes well. Advice please!!! Can anyone recommend what to do with a fussy mouthed horse? Should i just sell her as a project? Shes better than thst tho. I have had teethe back saddle done.I have had to go back to work ft at our business and have a baby so time is short (hence why i am selling)although i am having her schooled twice a week.

How much are you asking?

I think if I were looking I'd like to see her reaction to a bit, then you know what you're starting with.

Aw you sound so worn down by all of this

I am sorry you've been messed about like this as it seems as though you've done everything potential buyers SAY they would like (I reckon what people think they want and what they actually want are often very different!).

I'd say stick with it, and if she's not overpriced then just start being blunt with people. Say you don't want her messed about and confused and perhaps add that any work reintroducing a bit must be done after they've bought her. Perhaps as a compromise you could find a simple snaffle and demonstrate that she's not dangerous witha bit, just fussy, but not allow them to.

Just an idea x I hope you find something for her as she sounds a treasure.

Bossanova - what do you think i should ask? dont want to put on here in case get a barrage of opnions! i can pm you with a vid and see what you think if you like! Agree with showing her in abit to see her reation its just that if you do that for every person as its turning out then the schooling work she has isnt getting anywhere. Its so hard!

Cosmo Sam - thanks so much for your kind words, i am trying to be really honest but you hit the nail on the head, people say oh i dont mind putting the work in and then 5 minutes later say something like oh i want to go out and do dressage straight away! I am sure something will pop up i have just lost the will to live with it at the mo - i have a baby so everytime i show her to people i have to pay a nanny, grr. May just keep her and enjoy her when i can!

why are they trying to change the bit! we bought an older grade a that was in a snaffle and was never happy, i was at a bsja and spoke to one of the old riders and he said put her in a hackmore thats what she is happy in so we did and she went like a dream. this is a horse that in her prime came 2nd in the foxhunter final at HOYS in a hackmore. what is wrong with a hackmore some people

Well we either step up her schooling!-Which you know is doing wonders! Get you having lessons and loving riding again!
Have a fun packed summer! Sell her for mega bucks come autumn!

Or keep being fussy till the prefect home appears-but thats gonna take time dont forget!

Take it your 4oclock on friday didnt work out?

My aunt has just sold her section d - he can't be ridden in a bit because of a deformity in his mouth. She got so tired of people asking if they could ride him with a bit after schooling that she changed the wording on the advert! He went to a great home in the end and is doing RC activities

whereabouts are you? I am looking for a horse to hack out on, a bit of jumping and maybe hunting once I get my nerve back. I have a TB which I ride bitless, so am not bothered about having a bit in the mouth (in fact I prefer to ride bitless) but he is too fizzy for me and has knocked my confidence somewhat over the last two years, so I am looking for soeting sensible and trustworthy that I can have some fun on. If you think she would be what I am looking for please send me a PM.
