Very recently i viewed a fresian mare which was advertised on a well known horses for sale website.
I visited the yard and viewed her and decided after much deliberation that she was what i wanted ie young horse work in progess etc.
Without doubt i booked a vetting two stage as she had not been backed yet.Hoping everything would be fine given she was a young horse.I also paid a deposit.
Things did not go to plan as she failed the vetting. She has serious condition in her left eye which means she will go blind in it.
Despite her being what i wanted i could not take such a huge risk. However i now cannot get my deposit back[maybe my own fault for paying it]but even worse she is still being advertised at the same price and no mention of any problems.
I feel sick that somebody could be conned into buying her without a vetting.
Not sure what to do.This is not a name and shame just a genuine concern for those out there who may not have enough knowledge or sense to vet a horse before buying???

I'm assuming you agreed to buy her subject to a satisfactory vetting and left a deposit to secure her on that basis?

If she then failed the vet, you are entitled to your money back. If the vendors are refusing to pay it back, then write them a letter giving them a deadline to pay and if they don't take the to the Small Claims Court. Dead easy to do (can do it online), doesn't cost you a fortune but they'll have to pay up

Most people get a horse vetted - I wouldn't worry too much - it's out of your hands anyway.

I will contact them as soon as i can.Have sat at home wondering what the hell to do, the whole situation is heartbreaking. However thankyou for reminding me that its out of my hands now. Will make sure next time no money changes hands until horse sets foot on the yard thanks guys.

you paid a deposit on said youngster, should have been subject to vetting? did you get a receipt? anyhow it failed the vet so not fit for purpose! i would phone the vendors and ask politely for your deposit to be refunded! record if you can! your vet can confirm the defect in the eye therefore he had to fail the horse. if refund is refused do ask on what grounds? then TELL the vendor you will pursue this through the small claims court, and inform trading standards (only relevant if they are dealers)also do inform the vendor at the end of the call that it has been reorded!!! and would be used as evidence! have you got a copy of original advert? back this up with a 'signed for' letter. if you get to court you can claim for all expenditure (postage, vetting, time from work witnesses etc) i think you will get a refund but do not linger on this it is happening to you now. now is not next week
