After 6 weeks box rest and the lameness almost disappearing 2 weeks ago todays vet visit should have been a positive one.
We should have been able to start start walking out, only 5 to 10 minutes but it would be something to cheer him up.

But not so, the scan showed there is ligament damage after all, in the centre of the middle patella ligament.

So another month box rest.
Then re x ray and scan.

The worst thing is there could be permanent damage, that would affect his transitions.

I am so sorry to hear that :(
Maybe a treat ball, lickit or some carrots would cheer him up?
Keep thinking positive!
At lest it's winter when most horses are in, would be worst in the summer if he had to watch all the horses enjoy the sun shine!!

Really sorry to hear your news, the best thing I ever did for one of my old horses when they were on box rest for months was buy a tiny hay net for shetlands / ponies and filled it with carrots / parsnips / swedes anything your horse likes and it kept mine entertained for hours.

Worth ago keeps there mind stimulated a bit.

Best of luck.

So sorry to hear that :( Fingers crossed things start looking up for him soon. Second the treat ball idea for keeping him occupied, also if you can hang a swede up from the roof of his stable, that will keep him busy for a bit :) Healing vibes on the way to him and hopefully things will improve, fingers crossed.

Very sorry to hear that and I have a mare who also has ligament damage :(

But I do just wonder if vets seems to hand out the standard box rest treatment nowadays? It does seem to be particular prevalent nowadays along with the accompanied bute.

I am pretty sure that if you turned your horse out now it would infact have a good hooley around the field and make matters worse but what if it hadn't been confined to box rest in the first place - would he be perfectly normally mooching around the field without having to let off steam?

Don't get me wrong, I am not for one minute suggesting you are not doing the right thing, I don't know your horse, I am not a vet but it does make me wonder about the benefits of box rest?

Thank you

He needs all the healing vibes he can get!
