Don't think it matters if it wants doing! I plan to clip my old girl once more..I think show people sometimes don't as it can impact on the early Summer coat or something?
i clipped my horse in feb last year and he was fine to show in early may, i havent clipped him this year tho as havent been getting out on him much due to all the snow and ice here
I think it is supposed to be fine to clip up until the end of January, although I stand to be corrected. I know some say it is fine to do it later.
However, if your horse, like mine, is the spawn of satan then don't bother. I clipped him today & he was the most unco-operative little monster. He is currently roaming the field with a half head on one side & fuzzy on the other, and a hairy tummy. I gave up before one of us was killed . Going in for round two in the morning .
Our girl's getting clipped at weekend as she's getting very sweaty - she's a bit of an odd one with her coat and is moulting already! Query Cushings though so very thick curly coat and sweats a lot even stood in her stable so just giving her a quick bib clip to help her a little bit
Mine will be getting done this weekend or asap as he's now very hairy. I would have normally done his second clip a bit before now but as the weather was too bad and we weren't really getting them out anywhere there seemed little point clipping. He gets too hot and uncomfortable though hacking out so he needs clipping.
l clip all year so never worry, l have a connemara that gets very long straggly hair and sweats loads even in summer so l just clip the lot off. She is an angelto clip so never a problem
you can safely clip for another couple of months. summer coat will come through just fine! unless you really like the tatty half grown look ...........
If the horse is starting to moult dont clip if he is hanging on to his winter coat or dear life clip. My boy has his last clip begining of December as he always starts moulting mid January. If Im lucky he will have a full summer coat in mid April.
