nothing or calmer?

I have an ISH 8yr old gelding he currently has adlib hay half scoop chaff and handful of pony nuts twice a day. Hes full of energy we dont work him as much as we should but were working on it. Someone suggested we put him on Molichaff calmer and spillers coolmix to 'calm him' however I may have this wrong but feeding him more wont that just give him more calories and more energy?

How much turnout does he get?

Hes out all day 9-4 and in at night x

That isnt a huge amount could you increase it at all?

No, he could possible go out an hour earlier which he sometimes does but he needs to be in by at least 4.30 the yard are quite strict on this.

realistly he goes out 7.30-8 until 4.30

Unless he needs to put weight on and will not eat enough hay when in, I would not be feeding him anything other than a token to put his supplements in, fast fibre is a good low energy feed that would suit, cool mix I would certainly avoid it is full of sugar and starch which is not "cooling", Molichaff is again very molassed you would be better off giving ff and a magnesium supplement.
My ISH gets a small feed of ff and plenty of hay it is all he requires to do light work, he goes out about 6 hours each day and looks fab.
