Please help, I have a cryptic clue to work out to discover a male film star's name, the clue is: its only a short way to the yorkshire

The first name has 4 letters in it the second name (which refers to the clue) has 7 letters and the actors seem to be from the 50's 60' type time.

Anyone got any ideas?

If it was 7 letters in the first name and 4 in the second it could be Michael York.

But that's probably no help at all!

Not sure on the surname but could first name be Dale? (thinking Yorkshire like)

yep thought of that but haven't got any further, I keep thinking of fred astair, because a short way could be a step (stair) but can't make the rest fit

Its the surname the refers to the clue though not the first name so a surname with dale in it?
