I'm looking to go to university in Nottingham and my mind will not be swayed... the horse is coming with me! Can anyone recommend any livery yards in and around Nottingham, preferably closer to the Uni than not? I would like somewhere that offered part livery as an option/assisted DIY. Any info on price/facilities etc would be great. Not too fussed on amazing facilities but would like at least a floodlit school..

Thanks a lot :)

How far are you willing to travel? Will you have a car? I know about yards sound southwell and the surrounding area as I am at brackenhurst but guessing that will be too far?

Im not sure if I am going to take the car with me, it would depend on where I kept Cass and if I could get somewhere to park it. Though I have family in Notts city centre and they would possibly let me keep my car at theirs if needed but obviously that wouldn't be ideal. I was hoping to rely on public transport really! Im from down the south in Wiltshire so I really have no clue about Notts/surrounding areas!

Well the places I know are probably too far (40 min bus ride and 25mins car!). I would say that if you are going to be living in the centre you will really need a car as you are going to have to travel to outside the city to the yards I would say.

Bumping this for you if anyone knows of any nearer yards to the centre for you, if you dont find any feel free to PM me as I have a list of the yards in the area where I used to live at uni. :)

I assume you mean Nottingham Uni (rather than Trent) and the main campus and not Sutton Bonington......
In terms of public transport, a good direction to look for yards would be wollaton-trowell-ilkeston direction as buses run past the Uni out that way.
There's a riding school out towards long eaton on another main bus route from the uni/city centre but I've heard mixed reviews.
There are also regular buses out through Breaston and Draycott and there are lots of yards around there that would be walkable from a bus-stop.
I don't have any recomendations but can give you some starting points if you PM me.

I went to Notts and took my horse with me. SB campus has a DIY yard on site on the vet part if you are going there, I didnt livery there in my second year but did first. Second year did livery at quite a few yards whilst there! I was on Sutton Bonington but local yards are ones like Welldale (DIY to Full), Elms farm (Part or full), Bowleys (assisted and complete DIY) all in surrounding areas. Some people keep their horses futher out at places like Markfield and places in Derbyshire but taking your horse with you is very easy there :).

Hey,

I'm a local from just outside Nottingham and have quite a few suggestions if you want to pm me with exactly what you're looking for and how far you're willing to travel:D
