Well I entered to do this test, before I had a copy of it. Now I have a copy & well its just bizaar!

So a few questions.....

1) (start with the shallow one) Do I get points, as its not a run of the mill test?

2) How the buggery do I ride a 12M circle accurately?

3) What is a stretch and retake (in trot) - is it trot on a free rein?

4) What does Col T mean?

5) If col T means collected trot; how do I pretend to do one, because Im pretty sure my horse is incapable of doing one?

6) Has anyone actually ridden it? Does it ride better than it looks?

Apologies for all the questions, but Im pretty sure my instructor will draw a blank on several of these!

Thanks for the help in advance.

Novice 20 I believe is a normal test so therefore at an affliated clas I would presume you would get points according to your mark

12m circle..just make it bigger than a 10m and smaller than a 15m circle...ok thats no help at all.

Stretch and retake: I think you have to allow the horse to take the reins like a free walk and ride as if you were going to work long and low.

I have the test in front of me and I don't know where you get Col T from.

I'm doing this test next Saturday and its worrying me a bit. Its only my horse's second ever novice test, so I'm panicking a little

I'm panicking more thought now..... where is the Col T???

Lol, its probably a realistic explanation of how to ride a 12m circle, only prob is my 10 & 15M circls arent usually that great either!

Hmm, I think we're going to have to work on our stretch & retake then.

Im wondering whether the Col T IS A MISTAKE ON MY TEST (soz caps) on mine it shows in movement 15, the writing says down centre line, halt, salute; but on the diagram the little bubble says Col T. Do you think this is an error?

I think it could be an error on my test, judging by Lizzie_liz's reaction.

Its a very scary prospect that this is only your horses second novice test, I only entered this test as the other option was Nov38, I thought Nov 20 would be loads easier - apparently not!

Best of british!

I don't have the diagram versions, I have the BD folder tests and I only got the 2007 tests last week so maybe you do have an error.

Novice 20 is an interesting test, don't think I will be doing it all summer based on the schedules I have. I have given up thinking that the higher the number the harder the test, I just tend to enter whatever tests are available!!

Ah, fair enough; I will send an email to the BD office on monday to see if it is an error!

Thats the only problem with where I am, there are so many different centres and all do different tests; Ive entered 4 different shows for June, & am doing 8 different tests in the next month alone :O Fancied doing Nov 20 for a bit of a change, but God it is a change!

I've just realised I only have the written sheet and not the diagram sheet, so it isn't on mine *phew.....takes several deep breaths*

My local riding club ran a winter series with a championship class at the end. Yep you guessed it...I qualified for this class and they have chosen a novice test to do. I reckon they may have chosen the test before seeing it though

I'm not too worried as I am competing against others who are at the same level as me so we are all in the same boat so to speak....what worries me more is trying to remember the damn test

Brill, I think mine is wrong then! Was dreading having to do collected trot - far beyond our abilities! You'll be fab Im sure, I always find Novice tests are easier than prelims when you get there anyway!

And I dont remeber tests, thats what my mum is for!

Best of luck!

Will did it a month or so ago. It looks lovely to ride, lots going on and rewarding accurate riding. Think it rides much, much better than it looks,

Hey I think I might be doing the same Riding Club competition as you!!!

The test is definitely a bit mean after all those prelims. I have to learn both the prelim and the novice test for Saturday.

The collected trot is definitely a mistake, I have it printed on my diagram too.

I'm doing the rushmore evening one. Are you doing that one?

Will probably see you there if you are...I'll be the one going wrong and cantering when I should be lengthening

Yeah me too! I have the bright dun Akhal Teke who is usually a bit lively in the warm up! 20 years young... We had a five year break while I was at uni so this dressage series is the first thing we're doing in a very long time.

That indoor school feels so small I think to show even a few lengthened strides is an achievement!

Ooooh hello Anita

Its Ali with Joe...I think you were chatting to my mum at one of the last comps. Its nice to see you out and about again

I think it is a bit tight in there for medium trot...oh well.

Hi Ali! Yeah I was having a natter with your Mum, nice to see familiar faces and horses I recognise after all this time.

Having a real struggle to learn both tests at the moment, I went a bit wrong in the last one - the movements just come up far too quickly! And Junit is not impressed by the big holes in the walls of the school filled in with plastic!
