Hi guys,

Riding this on sunday and just need to double check some bits

Canter 5m loop-do u change bend???

How many trot strides are acceptable in the change of leg through trot??

Thanks!

I did this test a while ago and I showed a change of bend in the canter loop and also when I had returned to the track as that is what I think the judge is looking for.

I rode about 2-3 strides of trot in the change of leg thru trot so that you show a clear smooth transition before picking up the left canter again. Good luck!

Agree with K27 - You definately need to change bend on the loops in from the track and on the change of leg through trot - I would say 3 strides. Good luck!

Does it matter if my trot strides are horribly restistant??? She's such a moo with short time transitions!

Thanks for your help guys!

You will lose marks if she is resisting, my horse does sometimes, but it is only 1 mark, try and make up for it on the rest of the test. I found that really collecting the canter from A as you come off the corner (at F or K wherever!) and really sitting deep with all your weight into your heels, even to bring my hands slightly down and wide helps, and if you can, dont go rising, stay in sitting trot. Practice coming down to trot 2 canter strides after the turn, then gradually increase the length of time you go down from canter to trot and that may help - it helped with mine anyway!!

Agree as per above- you will lose marks for the movement if she is resistant and also marks for submission in the collectives. You could try lots of walk to canter transitions when schooling to get her more through and accepting the contact in the transitions. Try to really give with the hands in the transitions and ride her forwards from the leg into the bridle-so that she has room for her hind legs to move underneath her so that she becomes less resistant. Dont know if that will help you but good luck anyway!!

Sorry to disagree with above but if the 5m loop is in canter then you do NOT change the bend!!

The flexion remains towards the leading leg through the counter canter (which is what you will be doing on the loop).

Having said that you do not want to make the mistake of bending the neck too much as this will cause problems with the balance.

Fully agree THE_carthorse!!
