We are currently competing at Novice level in dressage and getting marks in the low 60% s - at what time should we attempt elementary? What % score is roughly the time to progress to the next level do you think is right? Thanks x

Just have a go when you feel ready. My youngster has just gone up to Elementary (Affil) & is getting better results there than at Nov (also Affil)! So horses need to be challenged & kept thinking I feel.

Thanks Polldark - im no where nesr ready - just wanted peoples thoughts so that i dont do it too early and make a fool of myself! Is there a big leap in terms of what is required? X

If you can do the movements then give it a try. I put off for ages as we were low 60 scoters at novice and was pleasantly surprised to get similar scores at elementary. My horse is never going to get huge scores as she's an ex show jumper and not built for dressage but she's well schooled and obedient and correct without being flashy and also she enjoys it more as it gives her more to think about. Try a test and see how you get on. You might be surprised as we were! :-)
