Myself & a few friends helped out at the show jumping ring at cheshire show today, picking up poles & rearranging the course etc.
Was a brilliant day (if a LOT of hard work!) and it was really interesting to actually sit and watch so many different riders & horses and the different levels of jumping. I'll admit I'll only usually watch about 30mins at a time otherwise
But now I finally get how big 1.30m actually is .... standing next to those spreads, well, they certainly look a lot smaller from outside the arena! And that wasn't even the biggest class?!
It was also interesting to see how the horses abilities changed from class to class at the levels went up, ie. everything becoming a lot more flowing and how some horses did keep the lovely rhythm everyone goes on about and others were very stop-start almost which really didn't look good or comfortable. :/
Was also interesting to see actually how many riders DID appear to be very insecure in their lower leg (something that seems to be cropping up a lot on here recently) and their lower leg looked pretty much useless as they rode, wobbling all over the place, while other riders did have a very secure looking lower leg which obviously allowed them to manouver their horses much more easily!
And dead sheep appear to be going out of fashion?!
