The Bicester met. I would say it was just fit... but only just; still a bit hard/greasy/icy in places. I didn't go partly due to the ground.

Sorry to be the party pooper, indeed if there is a party!

It is going to start freezing again and with a vengence for ages.

Best to fact up to the worst scenario rather than hope it's all going to go away.

That is why we have such problems in this country, because we seem incapable of making preperations. Whereas the Canadians and Scandanavians for example, accept that freezing conditions and snow are inevitable.

We went today. Shortish day at a steady pace as no ones horses match fit. We were on sandy going and it was OK but still a bit hard underneath in places. My boy ridden for first time in 2 weeks yesterday. Kept steady at back and took the odd shortcut. Glad to get him out but wouldn't have wanted to do much more.

The Ledbury went yesterday - greasy in gateways but otherwise not too bad - we haven't had the snow others have. I believe the VWH went too.

I assume the Atherstone didn't as we had a visitor from there!

Kimblewick Hunt went yesterday in Berkshire. We met at 12 and had a fun but short day,it was ideal for getting my boys out for a good leg stretch :) It wasnt a great scenting day but we were all grateful the ground was safe. We had many visitors from quite a distance eager to get out as their hunts were not going and it was lovely that OH (secretary) had phonecalls later saying how much they had enjoyed it :) Our youngster even jumped his first hedge (swiftly followed by his second and third :D ) We should be out tomorrow as long as the frost stays away..

Yes it seems we have more freezing weather on its way but i am curious as to how you feel hunting can prepare for it

went out today with the SC&RMA draghunt. We had a great day. Headlands were all really good, still some snow on bits of fields but all the gruond we went on was absolutely fine. Jumped my first hedge (and my 2nd, 3rd and 4th) on new pony so very pleased with my day. I have kept him ticking over through the cold weather though so happy he wont have lost fitness.

The Grove & Rufford met on Foot and are on foot again on Tuesday, North Notts is still really bad with about 6 inches + still on the land and a few inches of compact ice even on the roads still. We're struggling and thoroughly fed up, horses done nothing for over 2weeks!

Its definately becoming more of a problem, just didn't expect it this side of christmas...... hey ho!

You lucky lot that are hunting, enjoy!

We were on foot on sat, and potentially mounted for tues.

Although I am lucky to hunt mounted twice a week, I have decided not to risk it tomorrow as our ground is still frozen with only an inch or so of thaw on top that is very skiddy.

I am hoping to keep them both ticking over with some roadwork as and when the conditions allow, but however much I love my hunting, don't want to jeopardise what we may have left of the season for one day on dodgy turf.

Have fun all those who have better ground!
